Marlins signed RHP Freddy Tarnok to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
The 26-year-old right-hander split his 2024 season between the Athletics’ and Phillies’ organizations where he registered a 7.39 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and a 36/20 K/BB ratio over 31 2/3 innings across three minor league levels. There’s a chance that if he pitches well during Grapefruit League action that he could push for one of the final spots in the club’s Opening Day bullpen.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #49
Phillies sent LHP Kolby Allard, INF Rodolfo Castro and RHP’s Yunior Marte, Luis F. Ortiz and Freddy Tarnok outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
All five wound up electing free agency and will test the open market rather than accept outright assignments to remain with the Phillies. The most notable name here is Allard, who made seven appearances (four starts) last year for Philadelphia. The trio of Marte, Ortiz and Tarnok figure to be able to latch on elsewhere as extra relief depth. Castro underwent surgery back in August to repair a torn ligament in his right thumb.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #62
Phillies claimed RHP Freddy Tarnok off waivers from the Athletics.
Tarnok has been activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley where he’ll function as extra organizational pitching depth. The 25-year-old righty has made six appearances (one start) in the majors over the last three years.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics transferred RHP Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list.
The 25-year-old right-hander is still attempting to work his way back from last season’s hip surgery. This was done primarily as a procedural move to free up a spot on the Athletics’ 40-man roster for Brett Harris who had his contract selected from Triple-A Las Vegas on Friday.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Freddy Tarnok (hip) threw a bullpen session earlier this week.
Athletics manager Mark Kotsay told reporters that Tarnok is healthy and will open the season back at Triple-A Las Vegas after missing time this spring with right hip inflammation.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Freddy Tarnok has been shut down from throwing after experiencing a setback with his surgically-repaired right hip.
Tarnok remains without a timetable to return as he makes his way back from last year’s hip surgery. The 25-year-old righty made just five appearances (one start) last season for Oakland.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics transferred RHP Freddy Tarnok to the 60-day injured list.
Tarnok had season-ending hip surgery on Wednesday, and the move opens up a spot on the 40-mon roster for pitching prospect Joe Boyle to make his season debut on Sunday. Tarnok is expected to be ready to go for Spring Training.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Freddy Tarnok underwent season-ending right hip surgery on Wednesday.
Tarnok was placed on the injured list earlier this month with a right calf strain and will miss the rest of the season following the hip procedure. The 24-year-old righty is expected to be ready for spring training.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #62
Athletics placed RHP Freddy Tarnok on the 15-day injured list with a right calf strain.
No word yet on how long Tarnok will be sidelined. The 24-year-old righty has made five appearances (one start) this season in the majors.
  • OAK Relief Pitcher #65
Trevor May fired a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday against the Rangers to collect his 12th save of the season.
May received the call to protect a two-run lead in the final frame against the heart of the Rangers’ lineup and managed to work around a pair of two-out singles to lock down the save. The 33-year-old veteran stopper combined with fellow relievers Austin Pruitt, Freddy Tarnok, Angel Felipe and Kirby Snead on a four-hit shutout in this one.
