Angels re-assigned RHPs Travis MacGregor, Joel Hurtado, Jose Marte, Carmen Minacci, Alan Rangel and Hayden Sieg, LHPs Nick Jones, Cs Juan Flores and Zach Humphreys, INF Evan White and OFs Nelson Rada and Alberto Rios to minor league camp.
Nothing too surprising among this first large batch of cuts for the Angels. MacGregor, 26, was in camp as a non-roster invitee after posting a respectable 3.82 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and an 84/31 K/BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis for the Pirates in 2023. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him debut in Los Angeles during the upcoming season.

Angels acquired 1B Evan White and LHP Tyler Thomas from the Braves for C Max Stassi and INF David Fletcher.
For the second time in a week, White finds himself dealt to a new ballclub. After being included as a salary dump by the Mariners as they shipped Jarred Kelenic to the Braves, White now finds himself right back in the American League West with a move to the Angels. The 27-year-old first baseman hasn’t appeared in a big league game since the 2021 season.

Jeff Passan of ESPN reports that the Braves have agreed to acquire Max Stassi and David Fletcher from the Angels in exchange for Evan White and Tyler Thomas.
Interesting. The Braves already have a dynamic duo behind the plate in Sean Murphy and Travis d’Arnaud, so this could indicate that Alex Anthopolous has something else brewing as well — perhaps to flip Stassi elsewhere the same way that he did with Marco Gonzales and now Evan White after his deal with the M’s to acquire Jarred Kelenic. Fletcher should fall into a utility infielder role with the Braves.
  • ATL First Baseman #12
Braves sent 1B Evan White outright to Triple-A Gwinnett.
White was acquired by the Braves as part of the Jarred Kelenic deal early on Monday morning. The 27-year-old was included for Seattle to achieve salary relief, and he hasn’t played a big league game since 2021 when he hit .144/.202/.237 in 30 games with two home runs and a 30 percent strikeout rate. His removal from Atlanta’s 40-man roster enabled them to sign left-hander Angel Perdomo.

Evan White was traded from the Mariners to the Braves in a five-player deal.
White, who signed a six-year, $24 million deal prior to his major league debut with the Mariners, is just a salary dump at this point. The 27-year-old has dealt with several injuries, and he’s coming off hip surgery after playing in just two games last season. Perhaps there’s still some chance that he’ll contribute to a major league team at some point, but he’s not going to be in Atlanta’s plans. In moving him, the Mariners are saving $17 million.

Evan White underwent successful hip surgery in New York on Monday.
The procedure “released the tendon that was impinging his joint and also cleaned up significant scar tissue in and around the hip area”. The first baseman is expected to miss at least three months while recovering from the procedure, which will wipe out most of his 2023 season.

Evan White will undergo another hip surgery.
White is expected to miss at least three months following the procedure. He’s been out all season due to a left adductor strain and will undergo another hip procedure that will cause him to miss the majority of the year.

Mariners recalled 1B Evan White from Triple-A Tacoma; placed on the 60-day injured list with a left abductor strain.
This was a procedural move, as it was known that White was going to miss the first two months of the season with a Grade 2 groin strain. The 26-year-old was once a highly-touted prospect but has had trouble staying healthy the past few seasons.

Evan White will miss two months with a Grade 2 groin strain.
Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto made the announcement during radio appearance on Thursday. White was optioned to Triple-A out of spring training after missing most of last season due to hernia surgery. The 26-year-old was once a highly-touted prospect, receiving a six-year, $24 million extension before even appearing in the majors, but things haven’t gone according to plan so far.

Mariners optioned 1B Evan White to Triple-A Tacoma.
The most important takeaway from the spring for White is that he’s fully healthy. The 26-year-old went just 1-for-13 (.077) with a homer, two RBI and a stolen base in Cactus League action. He’ll begin the season as the regular first baseman at Triple-A Tacoma and should see time with the Mariners at some point in 2023.
