Evan Longoria is at third base and batting eighth on Wednesday for Game 5 of the World Series against the Rangers.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo will go with the veteran, Longoria, at the hot corner over lefty-masher Emmanuel Rivera to open Wednesday’s win-or-go-home Game 5 matchup at Chase Field. If Arizona is going to keep the Fall Classic going, it has to start in this one. Here’s the full lineup: Corbin Carroll (RF), Ketel Marte (2B), Gabriel Moreno (C), Christian Walker (1B), Tommy Pham (DH), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (LF), Alek Thomas (CF), Longoria (3B) and Geraldo Perdomo (SS).
  • ARI Third Baseman #15
Emmanuel Rivera is at third base and batting eighth on Tuesday for Game 4 of the World Series against the Rangers.
Rivera, who is 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI in the Fall Classic, in place of veteran Evan Longoria, who has gone 2-for-8 with an RBI so far, at the hot corner represents the lone change for the Diamondbacks as they square off against left-hander Andrew Heaney to open Game 4 on Tuesday evening in Arizona. Here’s the full lineup. Ketel Marte (2B), Corbin Carroll (RF), Gabriel Moreno (C), Christian Walker (1B), Tommy Pham (DH), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (LF), Alek Thomas (CF), Rivera (3B) and Geraldo Perdomo (SS).
  • ARI Third Baseman #3
The Diamondbacks are giving Evan Longoria his third straight start at third base in Monday’s Game 3 against the Rangers.
Emmanuel Rivera’s two-run single and walk off the bench Saturday wasn’t enough to get him a start over Longoria, even though Longoria has hit just .163/.220/.209 in 49 postseason plate appearances and the Diamondbacks consider Rivera the better defender at third. They’re going with what’s turned into the typical lineup versus righties: RF Corbin Carroll, 2B Ketel Marte, C Gabriel Moreno, 1B Christian Walker, DH Tommy Pham, LF Lourdes Gurriel Jr., CF Alek Thomas, 3B Longoria and SS Geraldo Perdomo.
  • ARI Second Baseman #4
Ketel Marte is at second base and leading off for Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday against the Rangers.
Arizona will stick with virtually the same lineup for Saturday’s Game 2 showdown, despite the presence of southpaw Jordan Montgomery toeing the rubber at Globe Life Field, with Marte batting ahead of Corbin Carroll as the lone change from Friday’s series opener. Here’s the full lineup: Marte (2B), Carroll (RF), Gabriel Moreno (C), Christian Walker (1B), Tommy Pham (DH), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (LF), Alek Thomas (CF), Evan Longoria (3B) and Geraldo Perdomo (SS).
  • ARI Center Fielder #28
Tommy Pham is in right field and batting fifth on Tuesday for Game 7 of the NLCS against the Phillies.
Pham draws his second consecutive start for the Diamondbacks, after homering during Monday’s pivotal Game 6 win, as they aim to punch their ticket to the Fall Classic with a victory on Tuesday evening in Philadelphia. Here’s the full lineup: Ketel Marte (2B), Corbin Carroll (CF), Gabriel Moreno (C), Christian Walker (1B), Pham (RF), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (LF), Evan Longoria (DH), Emmanuel Rivera (3B) and Geraldo Perdomo (SS).
  • ARI Third Baseman #3
The Diamondbacks are sticking with their usual postseason lineup and going with Evan Longoria at third base Monday in Game 1 against the Phillies.
The Diamondbacks have used the same starting nine in all six games thus far, with the only change being that Corbin Carroll and Ketel Marte were flipped at the top of the order the one time the team faced a lefty. If they’re ever going to make a change, we imagine it’d be to try Emmanuel Rivera over Longoria at third. The 38-year-old Longoria is just 3-for-18 in the postseason thus far, though he has shined defensively.
  • ARI Third Baseman #3
Evan Longoria (hand) is at third base and batting eighth for Wednesday’s NLDS Game 3 matchup against the Dodgers.
X-rays came back negative after Longoria was hit by a pitch in the ninth inning of Monday’s Game 2 win in Los Angeles and will be ready to roll for Game 3 as Arizona aims to punch their ticket back to the NLCS for the first time since 2007. Here’s the full lineup: Corbin Carroll (RF), Ketel Marte (2B), Tommy Pham (DH), Christian Walker (1B), Gabriel Moreno (C), Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (LF), Alek Thomas (CF), Longoria (3B) and Geraldo Perdomo (SS).
  • ARI Third Baseman #3
X-rays on the injured left hand of Diamondbacks’ third baseman Evan Longoria came back negative for any fractures on Monday night.
Longoria was plunked in his hand during the ninth inning of Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers and he was sent for precautionary X-rays, but it sounds like he was able to avoid any significant injuries. He’ll have to deal with some pain and swelling, but it’s unlikely to be enough to keep him out of the Diamondbacks’ lineup for Game 3 on Wednesday.
  • ARI Third Baseman #3
Evan Longoria was removed from Game 2 of the NLDS against the Dodgers on Monday night after being drilled in the left hand by a pitch from Evan Phillips in the ninth inning.
It’s likely that the Diamondbacks would have run for Longoria anyways given the situation, so there’s no guarantee that he’s dealing with any sort of serious injury, though the 38-year-old infielder looked to be in a considerable amount of pain. He’ll almost certainly head for X-rays just to rule out any potential fractures. Expect the Diamondbacks to provide an update on his status as soon as one becomes available.
  • ARI Shortstop #82
Jordan Lawlar is on the Diamondbacks’ NLDS roster.
No real surprises here for the Diamondbacks as both Lawlar and veteran Evan Longoria make the roster as reserve infielders along with lefty-masher Emmanuel Rivera. The 21-year-old top prospect hit just .129 (4-for-31) with one steal in 14 games during his time in the majors, but he’ll get some valuable postseason experience moving forward for Arizona. The minor swap of lefty reliever Kyle Nelson in for righty Bryce Jarvis is the only chance from the Diamondbacks’ Wild Card Series roster.
