Marlins placed RHP Eury Pérez on the 60-day injured list.
Pérez is recovering from Tommy John surgery and isn’t expected back until around the All-Star break, so this has no impact on his timeline. The Marlins simply needed a spot on the 40-man roster for newly-claimed reliever Seth Martinez.

Marlins claimed RHP Seth Martinez off waivers from the Diamondbacks.
Martinez was waived by the Diamondbacks on Monday just three months after Arizona claimed him off waivers from Houston. The 30-year-old had a 3.59 ERA in 52 2/3 innings for the Astros last season and should have a chance to make the Marlins’ bullpen this season. Eury Perez was moved to the 60-day IL to make space on the 40-man roster.

Eury Pérez (elbow) is likely to return around the All-Star break.
MLB.com’s Christina De Nicola adds that Pérez has seven bullpen sessions under his belt already as he continues his lengthy rehabilitation process from last year’s Tommy John surgery. Barring any unforeseen setbacks, the electrifying 21-year-old righty should be ready to return sometime around the Midsummer Classic. He’ll make an immediate impact for fantasy managers, but Miami figures to be extremely cautious from a workload standpoint, especially if they’re not remotely close to playoff contention.

Eury Pérez (elbow) has progressed to throwing bullpen sessions.
It’s encouraging to see Pérez continuing to make steady progress in his lengthy recovery from last April’s Tommy John surgery and figures to be ready to rejoin Miami’s starting rotation at some point in the early stages of the upcoming season. The dynamic 21-year-old righty was one of the most electrifying young arms in baseball prior to the injury and he’s going to make an immediate fantasy impact upon returning.

Marlins transferred RHP Eury Pérez to the 60-day injured list.
Pérez is slated to undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery next week. The procedural move opened up a spot on Miami’s 40-man roster for the club to pick up infielder Otto López off waivers from San Francisco.

Eury Pérez will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery.
More bad news for the Marlins. It’s a devastating loss for Miami, and fantasy managers as well as the electrifying 20-year-old righty was throwing without any issues prior to Opening Day, but experienced some renewed elbow tightness earlier this week during a bullpen session. The surgery is reportedly scheduled for Monday with Dr. Keith Meister in Dallas, the same doctor who operated on former NL Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara. Given the timing of the surgery, Pérez figures to miss a significant portion of the 2025 campaign as well.

Marlins placed RHP Eury Pérez on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right elbow inflammation.
Pérez was able to resume throwing last weekend without any issues after additional testing on his right elbow didn’t reveal any structural damage. The dynamic 20-year-old righty is still pretty far off from returning to Miami’s starting rotation, but he’s managed to avoid a worst-case scenario outcome in this situation.

Eury Pérez (elbow) played catch pain-free on Saturday and will play catch again on Sunday.
Pérez is expected to start the season on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation but was cleared of any structural damage. The 20-year-old will continue to work back from his injury and will likely miss a few weeks to open the season, but hearing that Pérez is throwing pain-free is a significant positive development.

Eury Pérez will open the season on the injured list after being diagnosed with right elbow inflammation, according to Craig Mish and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald.
The extremely positive news here is that Pérez has been cleared of any structural damage and hasn’t been recommended for surgery. However, the electrifying 20-year-old righty, who is scheduled to play catch this weekend, will likely wind up missing a few weeks to open the season before being re-evaluated to determine his next steps. There should be some clarity on his return timeline in a couple weeks, but fantasy managers should feel somewhat reassured that he’s not facing season-ending surgery.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that in addition to his fingernail issue, Eury Pérez is also dealing with soreness in his pitching elbow.
That’s never what you want to hear. The 20-year-old hurler was pulled from his Grapefruit League start on Wednesday for precautionary reasons due to right middle fingernail discomfort. Now, the Marlins note that Pérez also reported soreness in his elbow on Thursday. He has already been shut down from throwing for a couple of days, but don’t be surprised if that shutdown gets extended. He’ll meet with Dr. Keith Meister — who performed teammate Sandy Alcantara’s Tommy John surgery — to see exactly what’s going on there. There’s now a very distinct possibility that he won’t be ready for the start of the regular season.
