Blue Jays avoided arbitration with RHP Erik Swanson by agreeing to a one-year contract.
No word on the financials of this one yet, but Swanson was projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn $3.2 million via arbitration so expect that the figure will land somewhere in that range. The 31-year-old hurler took a step backwards after two brilliant seasons in 2022 and 2023, posting an underwhelming 5.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 37/14 K/BB ratio over 39 1/3 innings in 45 appearances with the Jays. With Jordan Romano getting non-tendered on Friday, the door is open for Swanson to ascend to a high-leverage role if he starts out the season strong in 2025.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Erik Swanson from Triple-A Buffalo.
Swanson, 30, has been stationed at Triple-A Buffalo since the end of May. He was disastrous during his stint with the Jays earlier in the season, posting a cringe-inducing 9.22 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and a 10/4 K/BB ratio over 13 2/3 innings of work. He should be utilized in lower leverage situations to start out.

Blue Jays optioned RHP Erik Swanson to Triple-A Buffalo.
Swanson has scuffled to a disastrous 9.22 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 10/4 K/BB ratio across 13 2/3 innings (17 appearances) this season after being one of Toronto’s key high-leverage options the previous year. He’ll get a chance to work on things in the minors and should return in a couple weeks.

Erik Swanson was charged with three runs and recorded only one out in the ninth inning on Wednesday in an ugly blown save against the Yankees.
Swanson was summoned to guard a two-run lead in the ninth inning with Jordan Romano presumably unavailable after picking up a save on Tuesday in his season debut and melted down in spectacular fashion. He immediately coughed up a solo homer to Giancarlo Stanton before back-to-back hits from Gleyber Torres and Alex Verdugo put the potential tying and go-ahead runs in scoring position with nobody out. He managed to retire Oswaldo Cabrera before being lifted for southpaw Tim Mayza, who allowed the game-tying run to cross the plate. It’s not what you want.

Blue Jays activated RHP Erik Swanson from the 15-day injured list.
The 30-year-old will make his season debut shortly after he started the 2024 campaign with a forearm injury. The Blue Jays have the third-worst bullpen ERA (5.00) this season, so an experienced arm like Swanson’s is coming at an opportune time for Toronto.

Jordan Romano (elbow) could be activated off the injured list before Tuesday’s game against the Yankees.
Romano and Erik Swanson both have a chance to return off the injured list Tuesday, which would be a massive upgrade for their bullpen. Romano has missed the first few weeks of the year while dealing with right elbow inflammation, and when he’s back, he should resume closing duties for the Blue Jays.

Erik Swanson (forearm) is scheduled to make a minor league rehab appearance at Single-A Dunedin on Sunday.
The 30-year-old hurler will throw an inning in that contest and then will be re-evaluated. While he could be cleared to rejoin the Blue Jays’ bullpen at that time, the general sense is that he’ll need one additional rehab outing before doing so. Either way, it sounds like help is on the way to the Blue Jays’ bullpen soon.

Erik Swanson (forearm) threw a bullpen before Monday’s game against the Astros.
Swanson and closer Jordan Romano began the year on the injured list for the Blue Jays, but Romano will throw a bullpen Tuesday and Swanson was able to complete the task Monday. Both hurlers will likely need rehab assignments before being ready, but a positive step for both hurlers, to be sure.

Blue Jays placed RHP Erik Swanson on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 25, with right forearm inflammation.
Swanson went down earlier this month and is still in the early stages of throwing again. It could be a few weeks before he’s ready for game action.

Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Erik Swanson is on the injured list with a forearm injury.
Swanson was sidelined earlier this month when he experienced forearm tightness and the team is going to make sure he fully healthy before returning to the mound.
