Orioles sent 3B Emmanuel Rivera outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Rivera will remain with the Orioles in spring training as extra organizational depth at the corner infield after passing through waivers unclaimed. The 28-year-old doesn’t have much of a path to at-bats in Baltimore, but offers some appeal in a platoon role against southpaws.
  • BAL Third Baseman #26
Orioles designated INF Emmanuel Rivera for assignment.
Rivera was excellent down the stretch for the Orioles, but the team made a deal for Luis Vázquez, and need room on the 40-man roster. It would be surprising if a team didn’t put a claim in for the infielder, and it’s just as likely — if not more so — that there’s a trade made for the 28-year-old.
  • BAL Third Baseman #26
Orioles avoided arbitration with INF Emmanuel Rivera by agreeing to a one-year, $1 million contract.
Rivera was terrific down the stretch for the Orioles, slashing .313/.370/.578 with four homers, 14 RBI and an 18/6 K/BB ratio in 73 plate appearances over his 27 games. While not a sure thing, he should have a strong shot at securing a role as a bench bat on the Orioles’ Opening Day roster in 2025.
  • BAL Third Baseman #26
Emmanuel Rivera hit two homers while going 4-for-4 with four RBI to help the Orioles to a blowout win over the Twins on Saturday.
An error was changed to a hit, so it turned into a four-hit day for the 28-year-old, and he also drew a walk. His pair of homers give him five on the season, while the four RBI increase that total to 29. Far from elite — or even strong — numbers, but Rivera certainly had a nice day Saturday.
  • BAL Third Baseman #26
Emmanuel Rivera went 2-for-3 with two RBI against the Tigers on Saturday.
Rivera put the Orioles on the board in the second inning with a sacrifice fly. He later drove in Baltimore’s second run with a base hit in the sixth. Rivera came up in a big spot in the bottom of the ninth, knocking a base hit to bring the go-ahead run to the plate.
  • BAL Third Baseman #16
Coby Mayo is not in the starting lineup for Monday’s game against the White Sox.
Emmanuel Rivera is starting at third base and hitting ninth against Chris Flexen and the woeful Chicago staff. Mayo is one of the top hitting prospects in baseball, but his playing time is likely to be inconsistent at best, even with the Orioles dealing with a host of injuries.
  • BAL Third Baseman #26
Emmanuel Rivera drove in three runs and homered in a 5-2 win over the Rockies on Friday.
Rivera drove in the first three runs of the game for the Orioles. The third baseman gave Baltimore a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the second inning, and an inning later, he smacked a two-run homer to give Baltimore a 3-2 lead. Rivera left this game in favor of Ryan O’Hearn, and while he will see some time against southpaws with Ryan Mountcastle (wrist) on the IL, he won’t see enough time — or do enough with it — to recommend fantasy rostering.
  • BAL First Baseman #6
Orioles placed 1B Ryan Mountcastle on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Aug. 23, with a sprained left wrist.
Mountcastle had already missed three games with the injury. The Orioles will likely platoon Ryan O’Hearn and Emmanuel Rivera at first until Mountcastle returns. Eloy Jimenez could receive some additional DH time against righties, since that’s usually O’Hearn’s role.
  • BAL Shortstop #73
Orioles optioned INF Livan Soto to Triple-A Norfolk.
After the Orioles claimed Emmanuel Rivera off waivers on Wednesday, it seemed like only a matter of time before Rivera would be activated to take Soto’s place on the active roster. That day was today. Soto will continue to serve as organizational depth for the Orioles moving forward.
  • BAL Third Baseman #15
    Orioles activated INF Emmanuel Rivera.
Rivera was claimed off waivers by the Orioles on Wednesday and will now join the active roster. The 28-year-old was hitting just .214/.294/.269 in 229 plate appearances before being cut by the Marlins and should operate off the bench for the Orioles while getting some starts at third base against left-handed pitchers. Livan Soto was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.
