Red Sox signed INF Edwin Díaz to a minor league contract.
Díaz gives the Red Sox some additional infield depth this season at Triple-A Worcester. The 27-year-old is capable of handling multiple spots defensively and batted .103/.264/.375 with 12 homers and two steals in 289 plate appearances last year between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Sugar Land in the Astros’ minor league system.

  • ATL Relief Pitcher #59
Astros optioned LHP Enoli Paredes and RHP Peter Solomon to Triple-A Sugar Land; reassigned SS Edwin Diaz and LHP Parker Mushinksi to minor league camp.
The Astros latest batch of cuts includes Paredes, who holds a 3.99 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 35/28 K/BB ratio across 29 1/3 innings (34 appearances) over the last two seasons in the majors. Solomon made six relief appearances last year with the Astros. They’ll open the regular season as extra relief depth at Triple-A Sugar Land.

  • MLB Shortstop
Edwin Díaz will be sidelined six weeks after undergoing surgery on a fractured hamate bone in his left hand.
Díaz was in Astros’ camp this spring as a non-roster invitee and obviously won’t make the Opening Day roster now. The 26-year-old shortstop spent the last eight seasons in the Athletics’ minor-league system.

Astros signed INF Edwin Diaz to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Diaz, 26, batted just .211/.295/.373 in 2021 in the minors, numbers which are right at his career rates as a pro. He can pick it defensively, though, and it capable of playing multiple positions.
