Eduardo Rodriguez pitched decently in a no-decision against the Cubs on Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits over his 5 1/3 innings of work.
The left-hander struck out five opposing hitters on the afternoon while issuing three walks. All of the damage that was done against him came via the long ball, with Dansby Swanson crushing a solo shot in the second inning and Seiya Suzuki adding the dagger with a two-run blast in the sixth. Rodriguez generated eight swings and misses on 85 pitches on the day — six of them on his changeup — while recording a CSW of 26 percent. He’ll try once again to get in the win column when he does battle against the Nationals in Washington on Saturday.

Merrill Kelly will make his season debut on Friday against the Cubs.
Kelly will be followed by Brandon Pfaadt and Eduardo Rodriguez to close out a four-game series against the Cubs. Marquee offseason addition Corbin Burnes takes the ball for Tuesday’s showdown at Yankee Stadium before Opening Day starter Zac Gallen draws his second turn through the rotation.

Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered three runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Guardians.
Rodriguez struck out five and walked one. He finishes the spring with a 2.70 ERA in three starts, and while he doesn’t seem like a very good bet in shallow mixed leagues, he should be solid enough to help in deeper formats.

Eduardo Rodriguez retired all 11 batters he faced Friday in the Diamondbacks’ 2-1 defeat of the Reds.
He struck out six. Rodriguez’s velocity today was up about one mph from last year, and he didn’t allow a single hard-hit ball. We’re not recommending him as a mixed-league option just yet, but his stock is up some since the beginning of the spring.

Eduardo Rodriguez looked sharp in his spring debut on Sunday, allowing just one walk over two innings of shutout baseball against the Rangers.
Rodriguez struck out one batter on the afternoon. He generated two swings and misses on 31 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 35 percent. His fastball velocity was on par with where he was during the 2024 season, which is encouraging given it was his first outing of the year. As long as he’s healthy, he’s got a spot in the Diamondbacks’ rotation to begin the season and could wind up being a nice late-round value in mixed league drafts.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said “the club was not considering” a six-man rotation.
After the Diamondbacks signed Corbin Burnes this off-season, there was some chatter that the team would use a six-man rotation, but that doesn’t seem to be the case right now. If the Diamondbacks do stick to a five-man rotation, Burnes, Zac Gallen, Brandon Pfaadt, and Merrill Kelly seem like locks. That would mean that Ryne Nelson could begin the year in Triple-A and Eduardo Rodriguez and Jordan Montgomery could battle for the final rotation spot. Unless, of course, there’s a trade.

Eduardo Rodriguez pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings before being lifted from a tie game Saturday against the Padres.
Rodriguez allowed four hits, walked two and struck out three before the D-backs turned to the pen. The quick hook worked well initially, but A.J. Puk had a rare bad day and combined with Scott McGough to allow the game’s only five runs in the top of the ninth. Rodriguez ends his abbreviated season 3-4 with a 5.04 ERA in 10 starts. The Diamondbacks could still advance to the postseason, but they’ll need help.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings and took the loss against the Giants on Monday.
Rodriguez gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out eight. He’s had seven, 11 and now eight strikeouts in his last three games. Unfortunately, the strikeouts have been the extent of his fantasy value this year. Rodriguez spent most of the season on the injured list, came back and won three of nine starts with a 5.56 ERA. He completed six innings once. It’s unclear if the Diamondbacks will use Rodriguez again this season with an eye towards the playoffs, though he lines up to pitch again on the last day of the regular season.

Eduardo Rodriguez fanned 11 while allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings Wednesday in a win over the Rockies.
Rodriguez had no problems with Coors Field, turning in his highest strikeout total since 2019. He allowed hard-hit balls to just two of the 25 batters he faced, and it was simply unfortunate that four of the five singles he gave up came in a five-batter span in the third inning. Rodriguez is 3-3 with a 5.09 ERA. He’s currently slated to make two starts next week against the Giants and Padres, but that could change if the Diamondbacks clinch.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed two runs in five innings and took the loss against the Brewers on Friday.
Rodriguez gave up five hits, walked three and struck out seven. He’s lost his last three starts and has only two wins in seven starts this season. Rodriguez actually pitched well enough to win this time, but Arizona supported him with just one run on the night. After a stellar 2023 season with the Tigers, he’s dealt with injury and hasn’t pitched well with the Diamondbacks this year. Rodriguez has a 5.50 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 25 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings this season. The 31-year-old left-hander is set to face the Rockies on the road next week.
