Easton McGee was outstanding in his first big league start on Saturday afternoon, firing 6 2/3 innings of scoreless baseball in a no-decision against the Blue Jays.
The 25-year-old hurler retired the first 12 hitters that he faced, before issuing a leadoff walk to Matt Chapman to begin the fifth inning. That would be the only base runner that he allowed until Chapman spoiled his no-hit bid with a two-out double in the seventh inning. McGee struck out two in the contest, throwing 45 of his 64 pitches for strikes and generating seven swings and misses. After this gem, he’s a near lock to stick around in the rotation spot that Chris Flexen vacated. He’ll do battle against the Astros his next time out at home on Friday.
