The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal reported that the Mariners could give Cole Young at look at second base “at some point next season.”
Rosenthal reported that the Mariners believe “they are positioned to handle second base internally with Dylan Moore and Ryan Bliss’ but Young could get a look at some point during the season. The 21-year-old played the entire season at Double-A this past year, slashing .271/.369/.390 with nine home runs, 23 steals, just a 15.8 percent strikeout rate, and a 12.1 percent walk rate. The 21st overall pick in the 2022 draft seems likely to start 2025 at Triple-A and could push for MLB at-bats with a strong start to the season.

Andrés Giménez was named as the Rawlings’ Gold Glove Award winner at second base in the American League, marking the third time that the defensive wizard has received the honor.
Giménez is widely known as one of the best defenders in all of baseball and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him also add a Platinum Glove to his mantle before all is said and done. Here’s the full list of Gold Glove winners in the American League (along with how many times they have won the award): C: Cal Raleigh (1), 1B: Carlos Santana (1), 2B: Andres Gimenez (3), SS: Bobby Witt Jr. (1), 3B Alex Bregman (1), P: Seth Lugo (1), LF: Steven Kwan (3), CF: Daulton Varsho (1), RF: Wilyer Abreu (1), UT: Dylan Moore (1).

Dylan Moore singled, walked twice and swiped his 30th base of the season Thursday against the Yankees.
Moore wasn’t supposed to play against a righty today, but he was the choice to join the lineup when Victor Robles was scratched. His 30th steal added to his career high in that category. He’s never been good enough against righties to serve as a quality regular, but he’s held his own against them season. Overall, he’s hitting .206/.319/.378 in a career-high 415 plate appearances.
  • SEA Center Fielder #10
Victor Robles (hand) has been scratched from the lineup on Thursday.
Robles missed Wednesday’s game after injuring his hand trying to steal home on Tuesday. It seemed that he would only miss one game, but the Mariners will go with Dylan Moore at second base instead with Jorge Polanco sliding to DH.

Dylan Moore hit a two-run homer Friday to help the Mariners to a 3-1 win over the Cardinals on Friday.
Moore dropped the barrel on an offering from Matthew Liberatore to give Seattle a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning. The 32-year-old is now in double digits with 10 homers and has driven home 41 runners in 117 games to go with 29 steals. He’s also hit just .208 on the year, so there’s been just as much bad — if not more — than good for Moore in 2024.
  • SEA Shortstop #7
Jorge Polanco is not in the starting lineup against the Athletics on Wednesday.
After a decent run since coming off the injured list before the All-Star break, Polanco has yet again scuffled and is 0-for-13 over his last three games. Dylan Moore will give Polanco a rest and hit ninth while playing second base.
  • SEA Shortstop #25
Dylan Moore walked, singled, stole three bases and scored a run as the Mariners triumphed over the Giants 4-3 on Sunday afternoon in Seattle.
Moore — who was a late addition to the lineup after Luke Raley was scratched — led off the home half of the first inning with a walk. He then swiped second base, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI single off the bat of Cal Raleigh. He then worked a leadoff walk in the third inning and stole second and third base before getting stranded there. On the season, the speedy 32-year-old is now hitting .201/.315/.373 with nine homers, 37 RBI and 27 stolen bases in 373 plate appearances.
  • SEA Shortstop #25
Dylan Moore went 2-for-3 with one steal and three RBI in a win over the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Moore has emerged as an everyday player for the Mariners with J.P. Crawford on the IL, and he’s gone 7-for-32 with three steals and nine RBI in 10 games. Moore is a career .208 hitter so he will never provide much of a batting average but he has flashed enough power and speed to be fantasy-relevant in deeper formats.
  • SEA Shortstop #3
J.P. Crawford will go on the injured list after suffering a hairline fracture of his pinkie when he was hit by a pitch Monday.
Adding injury to insult. The Mariners will likely go back to Dylan Moore at shortstop with Crawford out. They could recall Ryan Bliss, even though he was just sent down prior to Monday’s game. Moore should offer some value in deeper mixed leagues while Crawford is out.
  • SEA Shortstop #7
Jorge Polanco is not in the Mariners’ starting lineup for Friday night’s tilt against the Blue Jays.
The 31-year-old second baseman has really struggled since returning from the injured list, hitting just .192/.222/.231 with no homers, one RBI and a 13/0 K/BB ratio over 27 plate appearances. Yikes. Dylan Moore will start in his place at second base on Friday night and will bat eighth against Kevin Gausman and the Blue Jays.
