Merrill Kelly (shoulder) will throw a bullpen session Tuesday.
Kelly will be one of a few injured hurlers who throw bullpens for the Diamondbacks Tuesday, as Eduardo Rodriguez (shoulder), Drey Jameson and Jordan Montgomery (knee) are all expected to throw between 20-25 pitches before the game. Kelly has been out since late April with his shoulder strain, and he’s expected to need a few bullpen sessions before he can start throwing simulated games. The 35-year-old has a chance to get back into action before the end of August if there’s no setbacks.

Drey Jameson (elbow) threw his first bullpen session on Friday since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September.
It’s the first step in the recovery process for the 26-year-old hurler. He’s not expected to make it back before the end of the 2024 season, but should be fully recovered and ready to roll for the start of spring training in 2025.

Diamondbacks placed RHP Drey Jameson on the 60-day injured list.
Jameson will miss the entire 2024 campaign after undergoing Tommy John surgery last September. The 26-year-old righty attempted to rehab a UCL sprain over the summer, but ultimately wound up requiring surgery. The procedural move opened up a spot on Arizona’s 40-man roster to sign veteran outfielder Randal Grichuk.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo says he doesn’t expect right-hander Drey Jameson to pitch in 2024.
The news isn’t particularly surprising since Jameson underwent Tommy John surgery in September; however, now we have confirmation. The 26-year-old was first diagnosed with a UCL sprain in July but rest and rehab didn’t work so he opted to undergo surgery. What role he returns to is up in the air, but we won’t have the answer to that until 2025.

Diamondbacks activated LHP Tommy Henry, RHPs Drey Jameson and Corbin Martin and OF Dominic Fletcher from the 60-day injured list.
Henry, 26, finished the 2023 season on the injured list due to inflammation in his pitching elbow. Henry appeared in 17 games (16 starts) for the Diamondbacks during the regular season, compiling a 4.15 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and a 64/35 K/BB ratio across 89 innings of work. The D’Backs are hopeful that he’ll be healthy and ready to go for the start of spring training.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #99
Drey Jameson will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Jameson was diagnosed with a sprained UCL back in early July and attempted to go the rest and rehab route rather than undergoing the procedure, but after his most recent setback that appears to be the only course. He’ll miss the entire 2024 campaign while recovering from the surgery.

Drey Jameson (elbow) has been shut down from throwing due to right arm tenderness.
It’s not a massive setback, but Jameson is officially done for the remainder of the 2023 season. The 26-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right elbow back in early July and has elected to try to rehab the injury instead of undergoing Tommy John surgery. He’s facing a lengthy road back, but could be an option for Arizona at some point next spring or summer.

Drey Jameson (elbow) could return from the injured list before the end of the season.
Diamondbacks manager said that the door is still open for the 26-year-old to return to the Diamondbacks in a relief role. Even if he cannot make it back, the team is confident that he will avoid Tommy John surgery. These things can change quickly, but it is great to hear the team this confident in Jameson’s prognosis.

Drey Jameson (elbow) is throwing from 60 to 90 feet and is feeling asymptomatic.
Jameson landed on the injured list with a UCL sprain in his right elbow and opted to go with rehab instead of undergoing Tommy John surgery. The next step in his rehab will be to throw from 120 feet before moving to bullpen sessions. The Diamondbacks haven’t ruled out the 26-year-old to make an appearance or two with the ballclub later in the season but time appears to be running out.
  • ARI Starting Pitcher #99
Drey Jameson has been diagnosed with a UCL sprain in his right elbow and has elected to try to rehab the injury rather than undergo Tommy John surgery.
There isn’t a great track record of pitchers (besides Masahiro Tanaka) attempting to go the rest and rehab route with a UCL sprain, but Jameson will attempt to avoid surgery in an effort to get back on the mound much faster. There is no timetable for his return, but he’s unlikely to pitch again until 2024, even in a best-case scenario.
