White Sox manager Will Venable told reporters that Drew Thorpe (elbow) felt good after his bullpen session Tuesday.
Thorpe threw a 20-pitch bullpen, and while he wasn’t close to full throttle — he was throwing 84-85 mph with his fastball — the important thing is he’s back on the mound and feeling well. The 24-year-old is behind the other White Sox starters, but has plenty of time to be ready for the start of the 2025 campaign.

Drew Thorpe (elbow) threw a 20-pitch bullpen session Tuesday.
Thorpe clearly wasn’t going 100 percent, as he was reportedly throwing 84-85 mph during the bullpen. The 24-year-old received a cortisone injection near the start of February and is considered “behind” the other White Sox starters. The next step is three weeks of bullpens, followed by live BP. Assuming good health, Thorpe should pitch near the back of the Chicago rotation to begin the 2025 campaign.

Jairo Iriarte will open spring training as a starting pitcher.
Iriarte looked sharp in six relief appearances last September for the White Sox in his first taste of the majors. The 23-year-old top pitching prospect enters spring training with a realistic shot at breaking camp in Chicago’s season-opening starting rotation, but it’s fair to wonder if his subpar control will hinder his effectiveness. He’ll likely have to edge out some combination of Drew Thorpe, Sean Burke and Bryse Wilson for a rotation spot. There’s plenty of talent and strikeout upside here, which makes him interesting in extremely deep mixed leagues and AL-only formats.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz told reporters that Drew Thorpe (elbow) is playing catch and will return to the mound shortly.
Getz did say that the right-hander is behind the other healthy arms after receiving a cortisone injection at the end of January, but they expect Thorpe to be “active” throughout spring training. Assuming good health, Thorpe should be a member of the Chicago rotation this season, but he’s more of a long-term play than one who should be trusted in 2025 from a fantasy perspective.

Drew Thorpe (elbow) received a cortisone injection last week.
The latest development qualifies as a slight setback in Thorpe’s recovery from surgery last September to have a bone spur removed from his right elbow. “I’m hoping that kind of clears it up and we are good to go from here,” the former top pitching prospect told reporters last week at SoxFest Live before adding that he isn’t dealing with any structural issues in his surgically repaired elbow. The 24-year-old righty, who is aiming to resume throwing in early February, struggled to keep the ball in the yard last year in his first taste of the majors, coughing up eight round-trippers in just 44 1/3 innings over nine starts. His changeup is one of the nastiest in the sport and he projects to be a key component of Chicago’s rotation mix moving forward after coming over last year from the Padres in the Dylan Cease trade.

White Sox’ general manager Chris Getz told reporters on Friday that Drew Thorpe (elbow) received a cortisone shot on Friday after experiencing some soreness.
The White Sox are calling it just a minor setback in his recovery and they are hopeful that the 24-year-old hurler will be able to resume playing catch by the end of the week. As fantasy managers, you never want to hear about any type of arm-related issues — especially for a player who underwent surgery back in September to remove a bone spur from his elbow — but it doesn’t sound like they’re overly concerned about it. It’s at least something to keep an eye on.

White Sox general manager Chris Getz told reporters at the Winter Meetings that Drew Thorpe (elbow) is expected to be ready for spring training.
Getz added that Thorpe is expected to have a normal offseason and be 100 percent for spring training after undergoing surgery back in September to remove a bone spur from his right elbow. The 24-year-old righty struggled to keep the ball in the yard last season in his first taste of the majors, but possesses one of the most electric changeups in the game. He’s a late-round dart throw in extremely deep mixed leagues.

White Sox placed RHP Drew Thorpe on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 1, with a right flexor strain.
The 23-year-old rookie right-hander was lit up for six runs over five innings in a loss to the Royals on Wednesday, and now he’ll head to the injured list with a flexor strain. No word yet on a potential timeline for his return but given the fact that the season means absolutely nothing to the White Sox, there’s no real need to rush him back. Unfortunately, that means he’s probably a drop in in most redraft leagues. Prelander Berroa was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to take his place on the active roster.

Drew Thorpe was throttled for six runs over five innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.
Thorpe’s arsenal, with the exception of his signature elite changeup, continues to get absolutely annihilated at the highest level as he surrendered a sky-high 97 mph average exit velocity on 15 batted balls in play against Kansas City, including a hanging slider that Freddy Fermin tattooed for a second-inning homer. The more alarming part here is that Thorpe generated just six swinging strikes, with five of those coming on his changeup, and finished with a calamitous 19 percent CSW. Yikes. He failed to record a strikeout and also handed out a pair of free passes. He’ll continue to start for the rebuilding White Sox, but he’ll need to make some necessary adjustments to thrive in the majors. He’ll aim for better results on Tuesday in a tasty matchup against the floundering Athletics.

Drew Thorpe was tagged for eight runs in 2/3 of an inning in a loss to the Mariners on Friday.
Yuck. Thorpe was fantastic in his previous few starts. This was ugly. He almost escaped a bases-loaded jam scoreless in the first, but a two-run double by Jason Vosler was followed by an RBI double by Mitch Garver; and Josh Rojas, Dylan Moore and Victor Robles went back-to-back-to-back. This saw Thorpe’s ERA jump up to 4.81 from 3.03. He should be better — he can’t be worse — Wednesday against the Royals.
