Donnie Murphy is expected to act as the Royals’ starting second baseman with Ruben Gotay getting sent down.
Murphy is 7-for-34 since being called up and he’s committed three errors in under 10 games worth of playing time in the field. Still, he has some value in AL-only leagues now.
  • MIL Second Baseman
Donald Murphy is back at second base today after missing two games with a hand injury.
    He’s batting ninth.
  • MIL Second Baseman
Donnie Murphy is out of the starting lineup tonight with a hand injury suffered during batting practice.
It just doesn’t get any better than Joe McEwing vs. Felix Hernandez.

Chad Gaudin has won a spot on the Marlins’ Opening Day roster.
Gaudin, a career journeyman, has a 4.63 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in parts of nine seasons in the majors. The Marlins have also informed infielder Donnie Murphy that he has made the team. Non-roster invitee Donovan Solano is likely to begin the season at Triple-A.
  • DET Second Baseman #4
Omar Infante (groin) said Friday that he likely won’t return to the lineup until Tuesday.
Infante has missed the last two games due to left groin strain. His condition is improving, but he’s not 100 percent yet. There’s a chance he could pinch-hit over the weekend, but Donnie Murphy will continue to start at second base for now.
  • DET Second Baseman #4
Omar Infante is not in Saturday’s lineup.
Infante was involved in a collision with Hunter Pence on Wednesday but is likely just getting the night off against the right-handed Bud Norris. Donnie Murphy is starting at second base and hitting seventh.
  • MLB Third Base Coach #7
Jose Reyes is not in Friday’s lineup against the Diamondbacks.
Just a routine day off for Reyes, who was 1-for-12 against the Mets this week and is hitting just .205 (15-for-73) this season. Donnie Murphy will start in his place Friday and bat second while Emilio Bonifacio will slide into the leadoff spot.
  • DET Second Baseman #4
Omar Infante was scratched from Wednesday’s lineup.
No word yet on the reason for the change, but Infante has been bothered by a groin issue in recent days. Donnie Murphy will make the start at second base and bat eighth against Cubs’ right-hander Matt Garza.
  • MIL Second Baseman
Filling in for Omar Infante (groin), Donnie Murphy doubled, homered and drove in three runs in Wednesday’s win over the Cubs.
He tagged Matt Garza for a two-run shot in the third. The hits were the 29-year-old journeyman’s first of the season. Murphy produced just seven extra-base hits in 92 at-bats a season ago. Even if Infante’s injury lingers, Murphy isn’t an option in NL-only leagues.
