MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch reported that the Yankees are not ruling out a rebound for DJ LeMahieu in 2025 and could give serious consideration to starting him at second or third base.
While the Yankees are reportedly inquiring about trading for Luis Arraez or Gavin Lux to fill their void at second base, Hoch mentions that the team has not ruled out using DJ LeMahieu at either second or third base, depending on where they decide to play Jazz Chisholm Jr. As Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone said “it comes down to health. I feel really good about where he was at the very end of the season physically. Now, can he maintain that and improve upon that in the winter and put himself in the mix heading into Spring Training?” If the Yankees don’t sign a free agent then the in-house candidates for second and third base include LeMahieu, Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza, and Andrew Velazquez. Hoch believes that, if he’s healthy, “LeMahieu would likely become the front-runner in that group.”

DJ LeMahieu took batting practice on the field Friday in anticipation of a potential return in the ALDS.
LeMahieu went on the injured list in early September with a hip injury. Towards the end of September, he was encouraged by his recovery and Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the club would continue to monitor him. At the time, there wasn’t a clear role for LeMahieu even if he was healthy. Since then, Anthony Rizzo fractured two fingers and didn’t participate in the Yankees practice on Friday. It would seem that if LeMahieu is healthy enough, he would be a logical platoon partner with Ben Rice at first base with Rizzo out.

Anthony Rizzo has two fractured fingers, the result of a HBP in Saturday’s game against the Pirates.
It sounds like they are hairline fractures that Rizzo might be able to play through by the time the ALDS starts. If not, it’s a significant loss on defense, but Rizzo had hit just .247/.345/.315 in 22 games since returning from a fractured forearm and .228/.301/.335 for the year. The Yankees could call up Ben Rice and have him platoon with Oswaldo Cabrera. DJ LeMahieu is also available if the Yankees want to activate him.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said that the team will continue to monitor DJ LeMahieu.
LeMahieu has been encouraged by the last few days in recovery from a hip injury. Unfortunately for him, it seems like the Yankees have essentially moved on and he would need an injury to make his way back into the team’s end of season plans.

DJ LeMahieu said he had a cortisone shot for his sore hip and that he hopes to come off the IL before the end of the season.
LeMahieu will be eligible to return for the final nine days, but it might not happen, at least not unless someone else on the roster gets hurt. He’s just not in the Yankees’ plans at the moment.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said he “would count on” DJ LeMahieu returning from the injured list this season.
LeMahieu was stashed on the IL with a hip impingement Monday, making room for Jasson Domínguez on the Yankees roster. He would have continued playing otherwise, but it’s clear he’s not in the team’s plans for the rest of 2024. LeMahieu has two more years to go on a six-year, $90 million contract.

Yankees placed INF DJ LeMahieu on the 10-day injured list a right hip impingement.
Well, he was playing like he was hurt, and phantom injuries only seem to be a problem when the Mets try to pull them off. LeMahieu had participated in just one game this month, going 1-for-3 last Tuesday. He’s at .204/.269/.259 in 228 plate appearances for the season.

DJ Lemahieu (face) is in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game against the Rockies.
LeMahieu was scratched from the lineup Friday because he was hit in the face during batting practice, and he wasn’t able to play Saturday. The 36-year-old will return to face his former club, and he’ll hit ninth while handling first base. Ben Rice takes a seat with LeMahieu good to go.

DJ LeMahieu (face) is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Rockies.
LeMahieu remains out of New York’s lineup after being hit in the face by an errant throw on Friday during batting practice. There isn’t much of a role for the veteran infielder anymore with Jazz Chisholm Jr. back from the injured list.

DJ LeMahieu was scratched from the Yankees’ starting lineup on Friday after being hit in the face by an errant throw during batting practice.
The 36-year-old infielder was evaluated, and it sounds like he was able to avoid any significant injuries, but the Yankees still made the decision to hold him out of action for precautionary reasons. He should be considered day-to-day.
