Hernandez

Hernandez was non-tendered last offseason by Kansas City after missing a significant portion of the 2023 campaign due to a dislocated right shoulder that he suffered during spring training. The 24-year-old former notable prospect is back in the fold with the Royals as extra organizational outfield depth heading into next season after finishing last year with a pedestrian .624 OPS along with eight homers and five steals in 395 plate appearances for Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Beck Way was sent from the Yankees organization to the Royals in July 2022 in exchange for outfielder Andrew Benintendi. The 24-year-old posted a 6.67 ERA and 1.77 WHIP across 79 2/3 innings at Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Hernández is back with the Royals just a few hours after being non-tendered. The 22-year-old outfield prospect is no longer on Kansas City’s 40-man roster after missing a significant portion of last year due to a dislocated right shoulder.
