  • MIN Third Baseman #39
Twins sent INF Diego A. Castillo outright to Triple-A St. Paul.
Castillo is no longer on the Twins’ 40-man roster, which will make it difficult for him to return to the majors this year. He remains in the organization as minor league depth. Castillo appeared in four games with the Twins. At Triple-A this year, he’s hit .274 with five home runs and 30 RBI in 74 games.
  • MIN Third Baseman #39
Twins designated INF Diego A. Castillo for assignment.
Castillo started four games for the Twins, going 2-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. He also hit .272/.379/.404 over 71 games in Triple-A this season. He was waived in order to make room for Brock Stewart to come off the 60-day IL.
  • MIN Relief Pitcher #61
Twins reinstated RHP Brock Stewart (shoulder) from the 60-day IL.
Stewart has been out since the beginning of May with shoulder tendinitis. His velocity has been down in his most recent rehab outings, but the Twins will look to have him help bolster their bullpen. Diego A. Castillo was designated for assignment to clear roster space.
  • MIN Third Baseman #64
Twins selected the contract of INF Diego A. Castillo from Triple-A St. Paul.
Castillo will join the major league roster with Jose Miranda (back) hitting the injured list. The 26-year-old was acquired from the Orioles in early April and was hitting .272/.379/.404 over 71 games in Triple-A this season.
  • MIN Third Baseman #64
Twins acquired INF Diego Castillo from Orioles for cash considerations.
Castillo, 26, will head to Triple-A St. Paul where, ironically enough, he joins another Diego Castillo (no relation) on the team. The Castillo that was just acquired by the Twins had a roller coaster of an offseason after he was on and off five different ball clubs (Diamondbacks, Mets, Yankees, Phillies and Orioles). He had a solid spring training with the O’s going 6-for-17 (.353 AVG) but is more than likely going to stay in the minors this season.
  • BAL Third Baseman #64
Orioles reassigned INF/OF Diego Castillo, INF Errol Robinson, OF Daniel Johnson, RHPs Wandisson Charles and Chayce McDermott and LHPs Cade Povich, Tucker Davidson and Luis González to minor league camp.
At least Castillo doesn’t have to pack up and head to another organization this time after stints with five different teams during the offseason. Charles is probably the most notable inclusion in the latest batch of cuts as he seemed like a decent bet to stick in the Orioles’ bullpen.
  • BAL Third Baseman #64
Orioles sent INF Diego Castillo outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
We’re not sure if Castillo wanted to pick up and change teams yet again, but sticking with the Orioles as a non-roster guy seems like about the worst-case scenario for him, at least for the short term. It’s hard to imagine him making a roster that’s pretty well stacked in the infield, and he’ll probably be overtaken by top prospects if reinforcements are needed at some point.
  • BAL Third Baseman #64
Orioles designated INF Diego Castillo for assignment.
The DFA carousel keeps spinning for Castillo. The 26-year-old has been added five times this winter by five different teams. While teams find him talented enough to add to their rosters, he keeps drawing the short straw. With how the winter has gone, he will likely land on another team before the end of spring training.
  • BAL Third Baseman #64
Orioles claimed INF/OF Diego Castillo off waivers from the Phillies.
Castillo finds himself on the move again this offseason as he’ll join Baltimore’s crowded utility infield mix this spring. The 26-year-old has put up strong numbers at the Triple-A level, but has yet to establish himself at the highest level. He figures to get plenty of looks in Grapefruit League action, especially if Gunnar Henderson (oblique) is going to be held back initially.
  • PHI Third Baseman #64
Phillies designated INF Diego Castillo for assignment.
The circle of life continues. It has been a tumultuous off-season for the 26-year-old infielder, as he has now been designated for assignment four times by four different ballclubs — the Diamondbacks, Mets, Yankees and now the Phillies. Once again, he’s talented enough that another team should come calling on waivers, which will have Castillo likely packing his bags once more before finally heading to spring training.
