Guerra was non-tendered by the Athletics in mid-November. He missed the entire 2022 campaign after undergoing Tommy John reconstructive surgery, but is scheduled to be ready to return within the first few months of the 2023 season.

Guerra, who had a 4.11 ERA in 65 2/3 innings for the A’s in 2021, underwent Tommy John surgery in mid-April and missed all of last season. He figures to remain sidelined for at least the first month or two of 2023.

The operation was performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas. He’s going to miss the entire 2022 season and likely the first half of the 2023 campaign as well while recovering from the procedure.

It’s not clear yet whether he’ll need Tommy John surgery or a partial repair. That will be determined on the day of the operation. Either way, he’s surely not going to be pitching for the A’s this season.

Guerra elected to undergo surgery near the start of April. It’d be a a major surprise if he returned to the Oakland pitching staff anytime soon.

It’s unclear exactly how long he’ll be sidelined, but Guerra is headed to the injured list to open the regular season. The 32-year-old righty reliever has been dealing with forearm tightness this spring. He emerged as a key piece of the Athletics’ bullpen last year, compiling a solid 4.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 62/20 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings.

It’s clear by now that something is not quite right with the 32-year-old reliever, who figures to open the season on the injured list even if the issue proves to be minor. There should be an update from A’s camp sometime this weekend. Guerra posted a 4.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 62/20 K/BB ratio in 65 2/3 innings last year for Oakland.

Guerra will be re-evaluated Tuesday and has been shut down from throwing temporarily. There should be some additional clarity on his status later this week.

Guerra inked a minor league deal with Oakland last offseason and went on to post a respectable 4.11 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 62/20 K/BB ratio across 65 2/3 innings of relief at the major league level. The 32-year-old right-hander projects to work as a high-leverage bullpen arm for the A’s in 2022.

Guerra will replace A.J. Puk (biceps) in the Oakland bullpen ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Astros. The 31-year-old right-hander owns a career 4.81 ERA in 103 total major league innings.
