Hernández is reportedly set to pitch in Japan. The 26-year-old hasn’t appeared in the majors this year, and posted a 2.96 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 19 walks over 27 1/3 innings with the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate.

Hernandez was designated for assignment after the Cole Irvin trade, but he cleared waivers and will be invited to spring training as a non-roster player. The southpaw has had big issues with his control in the majors, including 17 runs allowed -- 16 earned -- in 6 2/3 innings with the Red Sox in 2022. He’ll be a project for the O’s in the spring.

The move clears a spot for the newly-acquired Cole Irvin on the 40-man roster. Hernandez was recently acquired from the Red Sox for cash considerations, but now he could be on the move again. It’s an evolving situation for now.

Hernandez heads to Baltimore after being designated for assignment in Boston to clear out space for Justin Turner. The 26-year-old right-hander had some success early on during his time with the Red Sox, but he logged only 6 2/3 major league innings in 2022 and served up 17 runs -- 16 earned -- for a 21.60 ERA.

Hernandez has been recalled for the Red Sox’ final regular-season series against the Rays at Fenway Park. The 25-year-old southpaw has struggled mightily at the big-league level this season, compiling a stratospheric 21.60 ERA, 3.30 WHIP and 9/8 K/BB ratio across 6 2/3 innings (seven appearances).

Hernandez comes off the 40-man roster to make room for Justin Turner. Once considered one of the top prospects in the Boston system, the 26-year-old has struggled to find success at the highest level and gave up a whopping 16 runs in just-under seven innings (21.60 ERA) in 2022. Someone will likely take a shot on him as a reclamation project.

Hernandez has given up a whopping 16 runs over 6 2/3 innings of work for the Red Sox this season. He’ll head to the minors with Michael Wacha activated from the injured list.

Hernandez takes the place of Brayan Bello after Bello was placed on the injured list. He’s been an up-and-down arm all year, and isn’t likely to have fantasy relevance while with the club.

He’s clearing out to make room for Josh Winckowski (COVID-19), who will be activated to start Tuesday against the Guardians. The Red Sox will also need to make an additional move with their 40-man roster.

Hernández was working out of the pen in Triple-A since returning from knee surgery, and he’ll be utilized there for Boston. If he looks good, he could make Austin Davis or Jake Diekman expendable at the trade deadline.
