Giants reassigned INF’s Donovan Walton, Colton Welker and Brady Whalen, C’s Brett Cumberland and Andy Thomas, LHP’s Darien Núñez, Sean Newcomb and Daniel Tillo, RHP’s Ljay Newsome, Joe Ross and Drew Strotman to minor league camp.
Walton, who is likely to be sidelined until May as he continues his recovery from offseason shoulder surgery, is the most prominent of the Giants’ first round of cuts from spring training. Newcomb and Ross figure to be the most likely to contribute at some point for the Giants.

Giants signed LHP Darien Núñez to a minor league contract.
Núñez was just released by the Giants this past Saturday, shortly after being claimed off waivers from the Dodgers, but he’s back with the organization as he continues his rehabilitation from Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery. The 29-year-old left-hander is not expected to pitch until the 2023 season.

    Giants released LHP Darien Núñez.
Núñez will head to free agency just a few days after being claimed off release waivers by the Giants from the division-rival Dodgers. The 29-year-old left-hander, who is scheduled to undergo Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery, made six relief appearances last year at the major-league level. He’s expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and be sidelined for a portion of the 2023 season as well.

Giants claimed LHP Darien Nunez off of waivers from the Dodgers.
He’ll be optioned to Triple-A Sacramento. The 29-year-old southpaw will miss the entire 2022 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, but the Giants see an opportunity here to let him do his rehab and recovery with them and hopefully re-sign him afterwards. Given all of the success that they have had over the last few years with these types of signings, it makes plenty of sense.

    Dodgers released LHP Darien Núñez.
Núñez was designated for assignment last weekend and has been officially cut loose by the Dodgers. The 29-year-old left-hander, who is scheduled to undergo Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery, made six relief appearances last year at the major-league level. He’s expected to miss the remainder of the 2022 campaign and be sidelined for a portion of the 2023 season as well.

Dodgers designated LHP Darien Núñez for assignment.
Núñez is scheduled to undergo season-ending Tommy John elbow reconstructive surgery. Reyes Moronta has been recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City to take his place on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #62
Darien Nuñez (elbow) will undergo Tommy John surgery.
Nuñez started in Triple-A as relief help for the Dodgers to begin the season. Sadly, he will miss the rest of the year because of the procedure. The southpaw split his time between Triple-A and the major leagues last season with a 39 percent strikeout mark in his 52 innings for Triple-A Oklahoma City last year.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #62
Dodgers optioned LHP Darien Núñez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Núñez will begin the regular season in the upper minors as extra relief depth. The 29-year-old southpaw allowed eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits with an 8/4 K/BB ratio across 7 2/3 innings (six appearances, one start) last year at the major-league level.

Dodgers optioned LHP Darien Nuñez to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The Dodgers called up Andre Jackson on Friday to give them a fresh arm in the bullpen and Nunez was the odd-man out. The 28-year-old southpaw owns a disappointing 8.22 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 8/4 K/BB ratio over 7 2/3 innings on the season.

Dodgers recalled LHP Darien Nunez from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
The 28-year-old has allowed eight runs over 7 2/3 innings at the major league level this season and carries a 2.29 ERA and 1.02 WHIP over 39 1/1 frames in the minors. There is no fantasy appeal here.
