Athletics optioned INF Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The move makes room for Jacob Wilson, who is returning Tuesday. Hernaiz had been playing over Abraham Toro at third base, but the A’s weren’t willing to cut Toro just yet. Max Schuemann figures to get much of the time at third with Wilson playing shortstop.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Abraham Toro is getting his first start in eight days Monday against the Rays.
Darell Hernaiz has overtaken Toro as Oakland’s primary third baseman, even though he hasn’t hit at all. If Jacob Wilson returns next week as hoped, the A’s will probably turn to Max Schuemann at third base, leaving them with a decision on whether to option out Hernaiz or DFA Toro.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics activated INF Darrel Hernaiz from the 60-day injured list.
The 22-year-old infielder has been sidelined since early May due to a severe left ankle sprain. He’s back with the A’s though and will be in uniform for Friday’s series opener against the Dodgers. He’ll take the spot of Brett Harris on the A’s active roster after Harris was optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics transferred INF Darell Hernaiz from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list.
That must be a pretty bad ankle sprain that Hernaiz suffered last week. The A’s are currently rolling with Max Schuemann as their everyday shortstop.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics placed SS Darell Hernaiz on the 10-day injured list with a left ankle sprain.
Hernaiz has been diagnosed with a severe left ankle sprain that will likely keep him sidelined for multiple weeks. The 22-year-old middle infielder suffered the injury during Tuesday’s blowout loss to the Rangers.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Darell Hernaiz was removed from Tuesday’s lopsided affair against the Rangers with a left ankle injury.
Hernaiz suffered the injury during the early stages of the one-sided contest when he stepped awkwardly on the first-base bag attempting to beat out an infield hit. The 22-year-old infielder should be considered day-to-day for now.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Darell Hernaiz made an early exit from Tuesday’s game against the Rangers with an apparent leg injury.
Hernaiz stepped awkwardly on first base while attempting to beat out an infield hit during Tuesday’s one-sided affair against the Rangers and was immediately lifted from the contest. There should be an update on his status shortly.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics recalled SS Darell Hernaiz from Triple-A Las Vegas
The A’s will bring up the 22-year-old infielder who is filling the roster spot for Zack Gelof. Herniaz has struggled at the major league level where he’s slashed .103/.156/.103 in his 17 games this season.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics optioned SS Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.
There isn’t exactly a starting spot for Hernaiz in the majors with Nick Allen finally back to full strength, so he’s headed back to the minors to continue playing everyday ahead of Friday’s series opener against the Guardians. The 22-year-old prospect was batting .103 (3-for-29) with two RBI in 17 games for Oakland in his first taste of the big leagues.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Darell Hernaiz struck out all three times up against the Red Sox on Monday.
Hernaiz has appeared in all five games for the A’s, but he’s started just two and gone 0-for-7. There’s a case for him as the team’s starting shortstop over Nick Allen, but if he’s not going to play regularly, he probably ought to be in Triple-A, considering that he’s only 22 years old. That’s especially the case now that the decision to claim Tyler Nevin and demote Esteury Ruiz has left the A’s with three infielders and no true outfielders on the bench.
