Brewers hired Daniel Vogelbach as one of their hitting coaches.
Vogelbach will not be the lead hitting coach in Milwaukee, but a member of the staff after spending last season as a special assistant with the Pittsburgh Pirates. There are many stories of Vogelbach mentoring younger hitters while he was playing, in particular, his extra work with Vladimir Guerrero Jr. in Toronto back in 2024, so he could be in for a solid future as a coach.
  • PIT Designated Hitter #20
Jason Mackey of PG Sports reports that the Pirates have hired Daniel Vogelbach as a special assistant to the hitting department.
It appears that Vogelbach’s playing career is over. The 32-year-old had just a .578 OPS before being released by the Jays in June, but had stretches of being a solid option during his time in the majors.
  • FA 1st Baseman #20
Blue Jays released 1B Daniel Vogelbach.
Vogelbach went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last week. The 31-year-old slugger struggled to a .578 OPS with one homer in 79 plate appearances over 31 games this season in his Blue Jays debut. He should be able to latch on somewhere as a bench option, but his days as a relevant fantasy contributor in deeper mixed leagues are probably finished.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #20
Blue Jays designated 1B Daniel Vogelbach for assignment.
Vogelbach had struggled mightily with Toronto this year. He hit .186 with one home run in 70 at-bats. The club now has seven days to trade him or place him on waivers.
  • TOR Designated Hitter #20
Daniel Vogelbach went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, RBI, and three runs scored.
The struggling Vogelbach paced the also struggling Jays offense on Sunday with three hits and was just a triple shy of a cycle. He keeps getting opportunities to start despite his .594 OPS.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #2
Justin Turner is out of the starting lineup against the Rays on Sunday.
Turner will take a seat for the finale against the Rays with Daniel Vogelbach lined up as the designated hitter and hitting fifth.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #2
Justin Turner (illness) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday’s contest against the Orioles.
Turner remains sidelined for the third straight contest due to illness. The 39-year-old veteran remains day-to-day for now. It’ll be Daniel Vogelbach filling in at designated hitter in his absence.
  • TOR 3rd Baseman #2
Justin Turner is not in the lineup for Sunday’s contest against the Twins.
Turner went 0-for-9 in the first two games of the series against the Twins and is hitting just .100 with a .229 OPS in the month of May. The 39-year-old grabs a seat on the bench for the finale with Daniel Vogelbach hitting sixth and operating as the designated hitter.
  • TOR Shortstop #7
Isiah Kiner-Falefa is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Nationals.
Kiner-Falefa will get a day of rest for Saturday’s matchup against the Nats. Justin Turner will handle third base will hitting cleanup with Dan Vogelbach operating as the designated hitter.
  • 3rd Baseman #2
Justin Turner is absent from the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Saturday’s matchup against against the Rays.
It appears to be just a routine day of rest for the 39-year-old slugger. Expect him to receive plenty of off-days to manage his workload throughout the season. Daniel Vogelbach will start in his place as the team’s designated hitter and will bat cleanup against Zack Littell and the Rays.
