  • MIA Left Fielder #12
Jesús Sánchez (back) is not in the lineup for Thursday’s series opener against the Phillies.
The 26-year-old was removed from Tuesday’s game with a back spasm, and then the Marlins faced two straight left-handed pitchers, so it was a good time to let him heal up. As of now, we expect that Sánchez will return to the lineup for the final three games against right-handed pitching, but we’ll have to wait another day to find out. With Griffin Conine also sitting against a lefty, it will be David Hensley batting sixth and playing right field and Christian Pache batting eighth and playing center field.
  • MIA Left Fielder #1
Marlins designated OF Nick Gordon for assignment.
The newly claimed Derek Hill is taking Gordon’s spot on the roster, though it’s Cristian Pache who will likely end up with most of Gordon’s at-bats. Gordon has always lacked plate discipline, but he did used to hit the ball hard. Unfortunately, that’s been lacking this season after he missed most of 2023 with a fractured leg. He had a 44% hard-hit rate and a 90.6-mph average exit velocity in his career coming into this season. In 2024, he’s come in at 30% and 86.1 mph.
  • MIA Center Fielder #26
Marlins claimed OF Christian Pache off waivers from the Orioles.
Pache never played a game with the Orioles. He’s out of minor league options so he’ll go right on the Marlins active roster. Miami has multiple vacancies on its 40-man roster so only a corresponding 26-man roster move is necessary. Pache hit .202 with a .557 OPS and nine RBI with the Phillies this year.
  • BAL Center Fielder #26
Orioles designated OF Christian Pache for assignment.
The Orioles just acquired Pache and Seranthony Dominguez in a trade for Austin Hays less than a week ago. However, they also traded for Austin Slater on Tuesday, which made Pache expendable. The 25-year-old will now get a chance to be claimed by other teams after hitting .202 with a .557 OPS and nine RBI for the Phillies this year.
  • BAL Center Fielder #19
Orioles acquired OF Christian Pache and RHP Seranthony Dominguez from Phillies in exchange for OF Austin Hays.
Pache îs essentially a throw-in as the main pieces of this trade are Dominguez and Hays. He hit .202 with a .557 OPS and nine RBI for the Phillies this year. Pache doesn’t figure to be in the Orioles plans for much playing time in their already crowded outfield.
  • PHI Second Baseman #5
Bryson Stott is not in the lineup for the Phillies game against the Giants on Monday.
It’s a routine day off for Stott, which was a decision made easier by the Giants starting left-hander Blake Snell. Edmundo Sosa will move up to sixth in the lineup while Whit Merrifield will play second base and hit seventh. Cristian Pache will also start in left field with Brandon Marsh sitting against the lefty.
  • PHI Center Fielder #19
Christian Pache hit an opposite field single to help lift the Phillies to a 2-1 victory over the Rockies in the 10th inning.
This was the Phillies’ second walk-off win of the season and it came off the unlikely bat of the 25-year-old outfielder. It was Pache’s first walk-off hit of his career, but from a fantasy perspective, managers don’t need to add the young player due to his lack of playing time.
  • PHI Center Fielder #19
Cristian Pache finished 3-for-4 with a double as the Phillies and a Yankees split-squad played to a 6-6 tie Saturday.
Pache improved to .286/.342/.514 in 38 plate appearances. Johan Rojas, meanwhile, is at .176/.192/.275 in 52 plate appearances. Reports indicate that the Phillies are still leaning towards going with Rojas in center initially, but Pache is there as a fallback option, probably in tandem with projected left fielder Brandon Marsh, if the team believes Rojas would benefit from Triple-A time.
  • PHI Center Fielder #18
Johan Rojas went 2-for-3 with a 106.4-mph triple against the Marlins on Saturday.
The exit velocity on the triple was barely less than his 2023 high of 107.0 mph. Rojas came into the day at .143/.167/.229 in 36 PA, which has led to talk of him losing his hold on the center field spot in Philadelphia. The Phillies do have alternatives there: Cristian Pache is another plus defender with big questions about his bat and sacrificing some defense by going with Brandon Marsh in center and Whit Merrifield in left might work out, at least for a little while. Merrifield had two more hits today, and his 1.231 spring OPS might have the Phillies weighing expanding his role beyond what was originally planned.
  • PHI Center Fielder #19
Cristian Pache finished 2-for-2 with a homer against the Yankees on Sunday.
The Phillies still have room for Pache on their bench, but because of the addition of Whit Merrifield and the desire to give Brandon Marsh more of a chance against lefties, it doesn’t look like he’ll have much of a role if he stays put. Since he’s out of options, he would seem to be a trade candidate this spring.
