Cubs signed RHP Corbin Martin to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Chicago continues fortifying its relief mix with Martin representing their latest middle relief lottery ticket this offseason. The 30-year-old former top pitching prospect was the centerpiece of the Zack Greinke trade between the Astros and Diamondbacks in 2019 before injuries derailed his promising trajectory. He compiled an underwhelming 6.00 ERA — 5.30 FIP — and 23/9 K/BB ratio across 18 innings over 17 appearances for the Orioles this past season in his first big-league action since the 2022 campaign.

Orioles RHP Corbin Martin elected free agency.
Martin was jettisoned from Baltimore’s 40-man roster back in early September after posting an inflated 6.00 ERA across 18 innings over 17 appearances in his first big-league action since the 2022 season. The 29-year-old former pitching prospect should be able to latch on somewhere this offseason as organizational relief depth.

Orioles sent RHP Corbin Martin outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
The 29-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, but he passed through waivers unclaimed. He’ll continue to serve as extra bullpen depth for the O’s at the Triple-A level.

Yaramil Hiraldo blew a save in the ninth inning by giving up a two-run homer to Nathaniel Lowe against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
It was surprising that Hiraldo was the choice in the ninth, but the Orioles had used Keegan Akin in the sixth and seventh tonight. Hiraldo blew the save, but he preserved the tie in the ninth, and the Orioles wound up winning in 11, with Corbin Martin getting the save. No one in the Orioles pen seems worth rostering in 10- or 12-team leagues right now.

Cubs acquired RHP Andrew Kittredge from the Orioles for SS prospect Wilfri De La Cruz
The move was announced just after midnight and is now official. Kittredge, who will be a free agent at the end of the season, will provide extra depth and veteran leadership in middle relief for the Cubs. Corbin Martin and Yennier Cano could be the favorites for saves in Baltimore.

Corbin Martin, who was designated for assignment by Baltimore on July 11, picked up his first major league save with a scoreless ninth against the Blue Jays in the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader.
Striking out Bo Bichette to end it. Seranthony Domínguez probably would have been the Orioles’ closer tonight, but he was traded to the opposing team in between games and actually wound up working a scoreless seventh versus his very recent teammates. We’d say that puts Andrew Kittredge (another strong trade candidate) and Yennier Cano in line for saves in Baltimore, but Martin was the choice after Kittredge worked a scoreless eighth tonight (Cano pitched in game one), and he got through the ninth in spite of a HBP and a walk to start the inning. Martin has allowed just one run in six innings since rejoining the Orioles on July 18. Still, he has significant issues with home runs and walks, which is why he’s spent far more time in the minors than in the majors in recent years. He doesn’t come recommended at this point.

Orioles signed RHP Corbin Martin to a one-year contract.
Martin was designated for assignment after the break, and he elected free agency after being sent outright to Triple-A Norfolk. The right-hander is back with Baltimore — for now — as a multi-inning option.

Corbin Martin has elected free agency.
The 29-year-old right-hander passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment by the Orioles, but rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, he has decided to see what’s out there on the open market. Martin has recorded a pair of strikeouts over 1 1/3 scoreless innings at the major league level this season.

Orioles designated RHP Corbin Martin for assignment.
Martin was one of the better pitching prospects in the game roughly a half-decade ago, but his career has been derailed by serious injury. The 29-year-old righty was called up earlier this month by the Orioles and wound up making just one relief appearance for the club.
