Making his first start against a righty in four weeks, Connor Joe went 3-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two walks Wednesday against the Cubs.
The Pirates used him in right field to give Bryan De La Cruz a day off today. Joe played regularly for a time after getting off to a hot start in April, but as his numbers fell off, he went back to starting only against southpaws. The team might be open to expanding his role again, but it probably won’t lead to mixed-league value.

Rowdy Tellez and the Pirates other left-handed bats remain out of the lineup on Thursday against the Reds.
The Pirates have now faced three left-handed starters in a row so Tellez, Ji Hwan Bae, and Billy McKinney continue to sit with Connor Joe at first base, Michael A Taylor in center field, and Bryan De La Cruz in right field. Tellez and Bae should get back into the lineup regularly when the Pirates face a righty but, unfortunately, they are lined up to face another lefty starter on Friday.

Connor Joe is on the bench for the Pirates for an eighth straight game Monday against the Padres.
Joe has rather violently alternated between being a short-side platoon player and an everyday guy for the Pirates this season, and the Bryan De La Cruz acquisition has put him back in the former role for now. It also certainly doesn’t help that he’s batting .200/.284/.250 in 67 plate appearances since the beginning of July. He didn’t even get one start during the three games that Andrew McCutchen was down last week.

Connor Joe went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday’s win over the Astros.
Joe didn’t drive in a run in this one despite a strong night at the plate, but did come around to score on a double by Jared Triolo in the fourth inning. Joe is hitting just .224 on the month with only two extra-base hits and three RBI. He’s well off the fantasy radar at this time.
  • PIT Center Fielder #10
Bryan Reynolds was scratched from the lineup on Wednesday with back spasms.
The outfielder is currently being examined and treated by the Pirates medical staff. The team has said that his status is day-to-day for now, so we’ll look for more updates as the day goes on. Joshua Palacios will replace Reynolds in left field against the Cardinals on Wednesday with Connor Joe moving to left field and Rowdy Tellez getting a chance to start against a left-handed pitcher.

Rowdy Tellez is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Mets.
Tellez finds himself on the bench with Mets southpaw David Peterson toeing the rubber on Saturday afternoon at PNC Park. It’ll be lefty-masher Connor Joe at the cold corner in his place. The 29-year-old has really turned things around the past few weeks, batting .309 (30-for-97) with six homers, 20 RBI and one steal over his last 30 games.

Connor Joe is in the Pirates lineup Wednesday for the first time in five games.
Joe was playing regularly against righties last month, but a slump changed that, and since the Pirates have been in a stretch in which they’ve faced righties in 17 of 19 games, he hasn’t had a big role. He currently has a .459 OPS in June after coming in at .853 in April and .737 in May. For the season, he has a .649 OPS against righties and an .825 OPS versus lefties.

Connor Joe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run against the Twins on Friday.
The home run was Joe’s seventh of the year. He’s up to .270 with a .792 OPS on the season. While he’s seen regular playing time this year, he’s certainly proven to be better against left-handed pitching once again. Joe has a .288/.356/.500 line in 90 plate appearances against southpaws this season.

Rowdy Tellez will be out of the starting lineup Tuesday against the Brewers.
Pirates manager Derek Shelton told 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh that Tellez will take a seat with Connor Joe instead getting the start at first base. Shelton cited the reverse splits against Ross with righties fairing better with lefties, so Tellez gets a break while being available off the bench.

Connor Joe went 2-for-4 with a home run and a double in a loss to the Cubs on Sunday.
Joe had a big 10th-inning home run off Adbert Alzolay that left the bat at 109.4 mph and brought the Pirates to within one. He also had a 102 mph double earlier in the game and has been seeing the ball well. He also made five starts for the Pirates this week and has been starting to play more regularly, which would be huge for his fantasy value. If he can continue to draw semi-regular starts against right-handed pitchers, he can be scooped up in all 15-team formats.
