Conner Capel went 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBI and a walk against the Red Sox on Saturday.
Capel has had a really difficult time finding a permanent roster spot, but he’s hit .278/.359/.398 in 153 plate appearances as a major leaguer since debuting in 2022. It sounds like the Braves are leaning towards Eli White as their 26th man, though that would give them a bench comprised strictly of righties (at least until Ronald Acuña Jr. returns and Jarred Kelenic finds his role reduced). Capel’s lefty bat would be nice to have around if the Braves ever wanted to hit for Orlando Arcia (though they probably don’t).
  • ATL Right Fielder #49
Braves signed OF Conner Capel to a minor league contract.
Capel, 27, is thought of as a quad-A player, but he’s experienced success in his brief major league stints, hitting .278/.359/.398 in 153 plate appearances. He’s probably not going to be on the Braves’ Opening Day roster, but he’s a decent enough corner outfield stopgap if needed.
  • CIN Right Fielder #49
Reds sent OF Conner Capel outright to Triple-A Louisville.
Capel passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week and will remain with Cincinnati as extra organizational outfield depth moving forward. The 27-year-old outfielder went 2-for-8 with a stolen base in five games during a brief stint with the Reds.
  • CIN Right Fielder #49
Reds designated OF Conner Capel for assignment.
Capel was hitting .226 with eight home runs and 22 RBI in 155 at-bats with Triple-A Louisville. The Reds have seven days to trade Capel or place him on waivers.
  • CIN Right Fielder #49
Reds optioned OF Conner Capel to Triple-A Louisville.
Capel had just eight plate appearances with the Reds after being added from Louisville on May 7. Nick Martini takes his place on the roster.
  • CIN Right Fielder #21
Reds selected the contract of OF Conner Capel from Triple-A Louisville.
Capel will join the Reds’ active roster and brings with him a solid .964 OPS with seven homers and 16 RBI in his 122 plate appearances at the Triple-A level. He’ll be a reserve outfielder and doesn’t have much fantasy appeal.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #93
Reds optioned RHP Connor Phillips and OF Bubba Thompson to Triple-A Louisville; reassigned OF Conner Capel, IF/OF Mark Mathias and INF Erik Gonzalez to minor league camp.
The Reds have cut down their major league camp to 39 players. Phillips will start the 2024 campaign at Triple-A Louisville where he posted a 4.69 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and a 43/30 K/BB ratio across 40 1/3 innings. The 22-year-old was called up to the majors for a brief stint last September where he made five starts, but struggled with a 6.97 ERA and allowed 16 earned runs across 20 2/3 innings.
  • CIN Right Fielder #21
Reds signed OF Conner Capel to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Capel got into 32 contests this past season for the rebuilding Athletics and put up a respectable .701 OPS. He’s hit .280/.366/.408 with three homers and six steals across 145 plate appearances in the majors since 2022. The 26-year-old former fifth-round pick will fortify Cincinnati’s upper-level outfield depth at Triple-A Louisville.
  • ATH Right Fielder #21
Athletics sent OF Conner Capel outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Capel hasn’t appeared in the majors since July and has now been officially removed from Oakland’s 40-man roster heading into September roster expansion.
  • ATH Right Fielder #21
Athletics optioned OF Conner Capel to Triple-A Las Vegas.
Capel heads back to the minors with Oakland re-shuffling their bench mix. The 26-year-old outfielder has hit .260/.372/.329 with three RBI and five steals across 86 plate appearances this season in the majors.
