Orioles C/1B prospect Samuel Basallo is at catcher and batting cleanup for the American League during Saturday’s All-Star Futures Game at Globe Life Field.
It’s a star-studded lineup with several of the top fantasy prospects in the game featured alongside Basallo. The 19-year-old burgeoning slugger has morphed into one of the premier dynasty hitters in the fantasy landscape last year, and has backed it up this season in the upper minors, batting .274/.338/.449 with 12 homers and seven steals through 75 games for Double-A Bowie. Here’s the full lineup: Max Clark CF, Cole Young 2B, Sebastian Walcott SS, Basallo C, Spencer Jones RF, Xavier Isaac 1B, Colson Montgomery 3B, Jaison Chourio LF and Harry Ford DH.
  • SEA Catcher #80
Mariners reassigned C Harry Ford, LHP Kirby Snead, INFs Cole Young, Tyler Locklear and Cole Tucker to minor league camp.
Ford’s unique speed and athleticism gives him a chance to be high-impact fantasy contributor at some point in the near future. Meanwhile, Young and Locklear are a bit underrated from a fantasy standpoint, depending on the source, but they figure to continue rising up dynasty rankings over the next few months. Young specifically has a chance to blossom into one of the top prospects in baseball as he ascends into the upper minors.
  • SEA Shortstop
Mariners prospect infielder Cole Young delivered a two-run double in the team’s 2-0 victory over the Reds on Monday.
The game was scoreless until Young deposited a pitch from Tyler Gilbert off the center field wall in the top of the eighth inning. Young, regarded as the Mariners’ top prospect, hit .277/.399/.449 with 11 homers and 22 steals over 126 games last season between Class A Modesto and High-A Everett. He has strong plate discipline and should hit near the top of the lineup when he reaches the majors.
  • Shortstop
Mariners agreed to terms with first-round pick INF Cole Young.
Young got a $3.3 million signing bonus, pretty much slot value ($3,292,900) for where he was drafted with the No. 21 overall selection last Sunday. The 18-year-old high school shortstop from Wexford, Pennsylvania had been committed to play college ball at Duke, but he is now officially in the Mariners’ system. In fact, he’s being introduced at T-Mobile Park in Seattle on Tuesday night.

  • Shortstop
Mariners selected Allegheny HS (PA) infielder Cole Young with the 21st pick of the 2022 MLB Draft.
Young has a commitment to play at Duke, but it’s much more likely he plays professionally than with the Blue Devils. A 6-foot shortstop, Young’s top talent is his potential to hit for average, as his left-handed swing stays in the zone with good bat speed along with excellent hand-eye coordination. He’s also a plus runner who should be able to provide stolen bases at the highest level. The one thing missing here is pop, and asking for more than a couple handfuls of homers seems like asking too much based on his profile. Still, a hitter who can contribute in those aforementioned categories makes Young a solid player, and the likelihood of staying at shortstop doesn’t hurt.
