Giants placed INF Christian Koss on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.
Koss suffered the ailment during Monday’s series opener against the Diamondbacks, when he was also robbed of a potential game-tying home run, thanks to a botched fan interference call. The 27-year-old rookie infielder is likely to miss at least a couple weeks.

Christian Koss went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer against the Marlins on Tuesday.
Koss drove in the only two runs for the Giants on a home run off Cal Quantrill in the in the fifth inning. It was the second home run of the season for the 27-year-old infielder. He’s slashing .224/.272/.303 over 84 plate appearances. Koss should be looking at consistent playing time at second base while Casey Schmitt covers third in Matt Chapman’s absence.

Giants optioned 2B Tyler Fitzgerald to Triple-A Sacramento.
Fitzgerald, who was batting .230/.289/.320 in 200 plate appearances, finally began losing some time at second base last week, though he started the last two games against the Red Sox and helped the Giants win yesterday with a successful squeeze bunt. It’s a little surprising to see him get sent down now, but it did figure that the Giants would turn to Casey Schmitt at second base following Matt Chapman’s return. Brett Wisely and Christian Koss could platoon until then.

Koss hit .219//275/.266 in 29 games for the Giants before being sent down earlier this month. He’ll again take on a utility role with Matt Chapman down.

Tyler Fitzgerald is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Tigers.
This seems like a routine day off for Fitzgerald, who was activated off the IL on May 16 and has started all but one game since then. The 27-year-old has gone 7-for-34 (.206) in 10 games since being activated with 12 strikeouts and three walks. Christian Koss will start at second base on Wednesday.

Christian Koss’ first major league homer was a grand slam off Brandon Pfaadt in Tuesday’s win over the Diamondbacks.
Koss took an inside breaking ball just over the wall in left to homer in his 56th plate appearance as a major leaguer. He’s batting .241/.293/.296 while filling in at second base with Tyler Fitzgerald and Casey Schmidt on the shelf. With both of those players currently on rehab assignments, it’s possible Koss will be sent back to Triple-A soon.

Christian Koss is starting at second base and batting ninth for the Giants on Wednesday against the Cubs.
After Koss was on the bench on Tuesday, he’ll be right back in the lineup on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has gone 7-for-37 so far this season with 11 strikeouts and is not an option in fantasy leagues.

Tyler Fitzgerald (chest) remains out of the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Rangers.
Fitzgerald will miss his second straight game on Sunday with a chest contusion. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be rookie Christian Koss making another start at the keystone in his absence.

Tyler Fitzgerald was scratched from the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Rangers with a chest contusion.
Fitzgerald was playing second base and batting eighth in the original lineup. It’ll be rookie Christian Koss taking over at the keystone in his place. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
