Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll confirmed Tuesday that Griffin Jax will remain in the bullpen next season.
Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler mentioned earlier this offseason that Jax could potentially make the leap to Minnesota’s starting rotation next season, but that doesn’t appear to be happening. It’ll be Pablo López, Joe Ryan, Bailey Ober and Chris Paddack in addition to some combination of Simeon Woods Richardson, David Festa or Zebby Matthews breaking camp in the rotation mix. The 30-year-old righty, who broke in the majors as a starter back in 2021, has excelled in a high-leverage role for the Twins over the past three seasons. He piled up 10 saves last year to accompany a sparkling 2.03 ERA (1.94 FIP), 0.87 WHIP and 95/15 K/BB ratio across 71 innings (72 appearances). He’ll remain among the most impactful non-closers in the fantasy landscape and a legitimate force in saves plus holds formats heading into 2025.

The Athletic’s Aaron Gleeman reported that the Twins will likely try and trade RHP Chris Paddack this offseason.
Paddack will make $7.5 million in 2025 in the final year of his contract, which is a fair salary for a back-end starting pitcher. In 2024, Paddack pitched to a 4.99 ERA in 88 1/3 innings before missing the second half of the season with a forearm strain. With Pablo López, Bailey Ober, Joe Ryan, Simeon Woods Richardson, David Festa, and Zebby Matthews all battling for rotation spots, the Twins would likely prefer to get Paddack’s salary off the books and take whatever prospect they can get in return.

Chris Paddack on Friday threw his first bullpen session since going down in July with a forearm strain.
Paddack is hoping to help the Twins as a reliever in the postseason. He had a 4.99 ERA in 17 starts this year before getting hurt.

Twins transferred RHP Chris Paddack from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day injured list.
Paddack is now off the 40-man roster, and it clears room for Diego Castillo to join the Twins as a September promotion. Paddack has a chance to return at the end of the year, but can’t join the Minnesota staff any earlier than September 20 now.

Chris Paddack (forearm) resumed playing catch from a distance of 60 feet on Wednesday.
Paddack has been shelved since mid-July due to a right forearm strain, but a recent MRI exam cleared him to resume throwing and now he’ll start to build back up with the intention of returning this season. If he’s able to avoid any setbacks as he’s ramping up, he could make it back to help the Twins in late September.

The Twins are hoping Chris Paddack will soon be cleared to resume throwing.
Paddack has been out since July 14 with a forearm strain, and he’ll need a few weeks to get back up to speed once he resumes throwing. The Twins do plan to bring him back as a starter.

Twins placed RHP Chris Paddack on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm strain.
Paddack started the final game of the first half of the season — striking out six over five innings of one-run baseball against the Giants. It’s unclear if the injury occurred during that start, or if it’s something that Paddack started to feel over the All-Star break. No word yet on how long he’ll be sidelined before, but it wouldn’t be surprising if he missed most of the regular season.

Chris Paddack allowed two runs — one earned — and struck out six in five innings against the Giants on Sunday.
Paddack’s velocity wasn’t very good today — his 91.5 mph average on his fastball was down 1.9 mph from his season norm — but he was rather successful anyway. He’s pitched five innings and allowed two runs in both starts since coming off the injured list on Monday. He’s mostly an AL-only option going forward.

Chris Paddack allowed two runs in five innings and got a no-decision in the Twins’ 8-6 victory over the White Sox on Monday.
Paddack gave up three hits, walked two and struck out three. He was solid in his return to the mound after he was on the shelf for two weeks with arm fatigue. Paddack isn’t a big strikeout pitcher, but his 4.08 xFIP suggests he’s been better than his 5.18 ERA. He’s allowed a .325 BABIP this year compared to his career .294 BABIP. Paddack is more susceptible to luck on balls in play because of his lack of strikeouts, but he’s still been unlucky. On Monday, the White Sox had a .154 BABIP and Paddack had a decent start. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Giants on the road this weekend.

Twins activated RHP Chris Paddack (arm) from the 15-day IL.
Paddack was placed on the IL on June 25th with arm fatigue and was quick to make public remarks that there was no injury to worry about. With David Festa struggling in his first two MLB starts, the Twins will activate Paddack from the IL on Monday in time to start against the White Sox. Given that Paddack is coming off two weeks of rest and has a 5.29 ERA in 15 starts this season, he’s a risky bet even in a plus matchup. Josh Winder was sent to the minors in a corresponding move.
