Chris Paddack was excellent in his Grapefruit League debut for the Marlins on Sunday, racking up three strikeouts over two scoreless frames against the Nationals.
Paddack allowed just one hit and one walk on the afternoon. The 30-year-old right-hander piled up 10 swings and misses on 42 pitches on the day — with two or more on four different offerings — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll be locked into a spot in the Marlins’ rotation to start the year and we saw the upside that he can have when going right in the first half of the 2025 season, so perhaps he’s worthy of a late-round flier in deeper mixed leagues.

Chris Paddack allowed an unearned run in an inning Tuesday in his start versus the Phillies.
Paddack hit Trea Turner to start the game and then gave up a single, but he likely would have gotten out of the inning unscathed if catcher Joe Mack hadn’t made an error on a pickoff throw. Paddack tried out a new, slower version of his slider today, throwing it five times in his 21-pitch outing. He never has had much luck coming up with a reliable breaking ball, so he doesn’t have much to lose by tinkering.

Robby Snelling tossed a perfect inning on Saturday in a Grapefruit League start against the division-rival Mets.
Snelling set down Marcus Semien, Juan Soto and Bo Bichette in a flawless 10-pitch opening frame. The 22-year-old southpaw toeing the rubber for Miami’s spring opener qualifies as a notable fantasy storyline. Yet, his path to a spot on the club’s season-opening rotation appears slim after the club brought in former top prospect Chris Paddack as a reclamation project to fill out the rotation. He figures to arrive in the big leagues at some point later this season after compiling an impressive 2.51 ERA and 30.3 percent strikeout rate across 136 innings last year in the upper minors. He’s a name to watch as a potential in-season pickup for fantasy managers.

Marlins signed RHP Chris Paddack to a one-year, $4 million contract.
Paddack would seem to be more interesting as a reliever at this point, but it sounds like he’ll be the favorite to open up as the Marlins’ fifth starter over Janson Junk, Ryan Gusto and others. The 30-year-old Paddack had a 5.35 ERA and a poor 16.7% strikeout rate in 28 starts and five relief appearances for the Twins and Tigers last season. In 441 innings since 2020, his ERA stands at 5.06.

Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that the Marlins have reached an agreement with free agent right-hander Chris Paddack.
Heyman adds that it will be a one-year, $4 million deal with the ability to earn an additional $500,000 in incentives. The 30-year-old hurler made 33 appearances (28 starts) between the Twins and Tigers in 2025, posting an underwhelming 5.35 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and a 112/37 K/BB ratio over 158 innings of work. He’ll give the Marlins a viable veteran option to help round out their Opening Day rotation.

Chris Paddack is not on the Tigers’ roster for the AL Wild Card Series.
Paddack was one of the Tigers’ lone trade deadline acquisitions, but he has a 5.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and a 112/37 K/BB ratio in 158 innings on the season. With this series being a best-of-three, the Tigers don’t need as many starting pitchers, so Paul Sewald will make the roster over Paddack.

Chris Paddack struggled in a losing effort against the Red Sox on Sunday afternoon, surrendering four runs on seven hits over his 4 1/3 innings of work.
The 29-year-old hurler also walked four batters on the afternoon while striking out five. The Tigers staked him to an early 3-1 lead in this one, but Paddack gave it right back by serving up a two-run homer to David Hamilton in the fourth inning and then an RBI double to Jarren Duran. He got 15 swings and misses on 104 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 28 percent. Paddack wraps up a disappointing season with a 5-12 record, 5.35 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 112/37 K/BB ratio across 158 innings in 33 appearances (28 starts) between the Tigers and Twins.

Tarik Skubal is no longer starting Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Red Sox.
With a playoff berth secured, Detroit will hold back their ace for Game 1 of next week’s Wild Card Series. Chris Paddack will start Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Red Sox at Fenway Park with the AL Central title still up for grabs. The Guardians own the head-to-head tiebreaker, so Detroit would need a Cleveland loss to Texas to claim the division.

Chris Paddack notched the first save of his big league career on Tuesday night, working three scoreless innings in a lopsided victory over the Yankees.
Paddack came on after the Tigers erupted for nine runs in the top half of the seventh inning to take a commanding 11-2 lead. All he needed to do was keep the train on the tracks. He did better than that, retiring all nine hitters that he faced in order, including four punchouts. It’s unlikely that Paddack blossoms into a high-leverage specialist in the Tigers’ bullpen, but this is much better than we have seen from him in a while. For the season, he sports a 5.26 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and a 102/32 K/BB ratio over 145 1/3 innings in 29 appearances (27 starts).

Tigers activated RHP Chris Paddack from the bereavement list.
Paddack is back after spending a couple days away from the club on bereavement leave. The 29-year-old righty was moved to the bullpen earlier this week after being lit up in a handful of starts since coming over from the division-rival Twins at the trade deadline.
