Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Robert Garcia and Chris Martin are front-runners for save chances at the start of the season.
Schumaker allowed the thought that Alexis Diaz could eventually factor into the equation too if he pitches well in Spring Training. Garcia finished 2025 with a 2.95 ERA in 71 games, but had only nine saves and took eight losses out of the bullpen. Martin finished the year with two saves and has the more established track record, but is also entering his age-40 season. This looks like a situation that has yet to fully unfold in camp, but we’d bet on Garcia to be the best bet to close as of now.

Chris Martin’s one-year contract with the Rangers guarantees him $4 million.
He’ll get a $2 million bonus, a $2 million salary and $200,000 each for 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 innings, which could bring the total value of the deal to $5 million. The 39-year-old Martin almost surely could have done better elsewhere, but he again wanted to be close to home as he finishes up his career.

Rangers re-signed RHP Chris Martin to a one-year contract.
Martin will once again be a high-leverage option for the Rangers after posting an excellent 2.98 ERA and 48/8 K/BB over 42 1/3 innings across 49 appearances. The right-hander won’t be fantasy relevant unless he gains saves, and that’s far from a guarantee in 2026.

The Rangers are re-signing reliever Chris Martin to a one-year contract, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
He’s back. Martin returns to bolster Texas’ high-leverage mix after compiling a pristine 2.98 ERA — 3.58 FIP — 1.20 WHIP and 48/8 K/BB ratio across 42 1/3 innings over 49 appearances. The durability questions are real, but the 39-year-old’s ability to navigate the most volatile innings in baseball remains firmly intact.

Chris Martin plans to pitch next season, and the Red Sox are showing interest in him, according to MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo.
Martin, 39, had a 2.16 ERA for the Red Sox between 2023 and ’24 and the Red Sox wanted to bring him back last winter, but he decided he was going to pitch for one more year and wanted to finish up close to his home in Texas. Apparently, he’s reconsidered now, even though he ended the season on the shelf with thoracic outlet syndrome. Before that, Martin had a 2.98 ERA in 42 1/3 innings for the Rangers. There are probably several contenders that would be interested in bringing on board if he shows he’s healthy.

Rangers placed RHP Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list with thoracic outlet syndrome.
It’s an unfortunate end to what was a very solid season for the 39-year-old hurler. Martin finishes the season with a 2.98 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and a 43/8 K/BB ratio across 42 1/3 innings in 49 appearances. Set to hit free agency at season’s end, it’s fair to wonder whether or not we have seen the last of Martin in the big leagues.

Rangers activated RHP Chris Martin from the 15-day injured list.
Martin returns to Texas’ high-leverage mix following a six-week absence recovering from a left calf strain. The 39-year-old setup specialist holds a strong 2.36 ERA across 34 1/3 innings (39 appearances) this season in his Rangers debut after spending the previous two years with the Red Sox.

Chris Martin (calf) suffered a setback on Saturday and was shut down during his live batting practice session.
The Rangers had been hopeful that the 39-year-old hurler was getting close to a return, but that will obviously change after Saturday’s setback. Expect another update on his status in the coming days as the Rangers gain more information.

Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that Chris Martin will miss 4-6 weeks with a left calf strain.
Martin has been a key cog in Texas’ bullpen this season, but they’re going to be without him until at least mid-August. The 39-year-old setup specialist suffered the injury during Sunday’s relief appearance against the Tigers and has already been placed on the injured list.

Rangers placed RHP Chris Martin on the 15-day injured list with a left calf strain.
Martin heads to the injured list after suffering a calf strain during Sunday’s contest against the Tigers. The 39-year-old veteran reliever has struggled to stay healthy this season, but this will be only his second trip to the injured list.
