The trio of non-roster invitees will head to the minor league side of camp for the rest of spring. Wieck is the most notable inclusion as he continues his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery. He’s not expected to be an option for the Cubs until the second half of the season.

Clarke went unclaimed on outright waivers and has been returned to the Cubs. The 24-year-old righty was selected by the Mariners last December in the Rule 5 Draft and wasn’t going to make their season-opening roster.

Clarke is a 6-foot-7 right-hander who registered a 4.64 ERA with High-A South Bend and Double-A Tennessee over 120 1/3 innings in 2022. When working in relief, he can get his fastball into the high 90s, and he throws strikes with that pitch and a solid curve. He’ll have a chance to be a bullpen option for Seattle in 2023.
