    Padres signed RHP Chih-Wei Hu to a minor league contract.
    Hu spent all of 2019 in the minor leagues and had an ugly 6.87 ERA in 74 2/3 innings between the Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the Indians and Cubs. The 26-year-old native of Taiwan will be a depth piece for San Diego.

    It only took the Taiwanese right-hander a week to land on his feet after the Indians cut him loose. He’ll begin his Cubs tenure with Triple-A Iowa. Hu last pitched in the big leagues with Tampa Bay in 2018, compiling a 4.15 ERA over five relief outings for the Rays.

    Indians sent RHP Chih-Wei Hu outright to Triple-A Columbus.
    Hu was designated for assignment by the Indians last week, and after not being claimed on waivers, he’ll report back to Triple-A. He has been awful in the International League this year with a 7.95 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 48 2/3 innings.

    Hu has been rocked for 12 runs over four innings this spring. He was acquired from the Rays over the offseason.

    Chih-Wei Hu gave up five runs on four hits and recorded just one out in his Cactus League start against the Diamondbacks on Thursday.
    Hu gave up back-to-back singles and hit a batter to load the bases with nobody out in the first inning before Christian Walker blasted a bases-clearing double. He managed to strike out Steven Souza, but surrendered a double to Carson Kelly before being pulled. The 25-year-old righty posted a 4.15 ERA in five big-league relief appearances with the Rays last season. He recorded a 4.66 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 92:28 K/BB ratio in 24 appearances (19 starts) at Triple-A Durham.

    Indians acquired RHP Chih-Wei Hu from the Rays for INF Gionti Turner.
    The move clears a spot on the Rays’ 40-man roster. Hu, 25, appeared in five games with the Rays in 2018 and posted a 4.66 ERA in 24 games (including 19 starts) at the Triple-A level. He’ll provide some useful depth for Cleveland going into 2019.

The 23-year-old right-hander pitched to a sturdy 2.75 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 114/38 K/BB ratio in 25 starts between Double- and Triple-A this past season. He will continue to ply his trade in the minors for the time being.
