Chi Chi González has elected free agency.
The 31-year-old hurler will now be free to peddle his wares on the open market this winter. González appeared in just three games for the Marlins during the 2023 season, registering a 7.36 ERA, 2.18 WHIP and a 3/1 K/BB ratio over his 3 2/3 innings of work.

  • MIA Starting Pitcher #17
Marlins designated RHP Chi Chi González for assignment.
The move makes room for on the roster for Matt Moore, who was claimed off waivers Tuesday. González has made three appearances in two stints with the Marlins, giving up three runs in 3 2/3 innings.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #17
Marlins selected the contract of RHP Chi Chi González from Triple-A Jacksonville.
González returns to the Marlins active roster after passing through waivers earlier this season. The 31-year-old posted a 6.07 ERA, 1.59 WHIP, and 71/34 K/BB ratio across 121 2/3 innings with Triple-A Jacksonville and will likely come out of the bullpen in low-leverage situations.

Marlins sent RHP Chi Chi González outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
González passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week and will likely opt to remain with the Marlins as emergency pitching depth. The 31-year-old journeyman right-hander made just two appearances for Miami before being jettisoned from their 40-man roster. There’s always the possibility that he winds up electing free agency instead.

Marlins designated RHP Chi Chi González for assignment.
The move makes room for the newly-promoted Eury Pérez on the 40-man roster. The 31-year-old González was just added to the major league roster last week and allowed one run in 2 2/3 innings across two appearances.

Marlins selected the contract of RHP Chi Chi González from Triple-A
González, now 31 years old, had a 4.54 ERA through six starts in Triple-A. He’ll give the Marlins some long relief help for now.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #38
Marlins reassigned LHP Devin Smeltzer and RHP Chi Chi González to minor league camp.
Smeltzer and González were in Marlins camp this spring as extra starting pitching depth options and will open the year at Triple-A Jacksonville. Smeltzer pitched well last year for the Twins, posting a respectable 3.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 40/19 K/BB ratio across 70 1/3 innings (15 appearances, 12 starts).

  • FA Starting Pitcher #17
Marlins signed RHP Chi Chi González to a minor league contract.
The deal presumably includes an invitation to spring training. González registered a 5.87 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 15/7 K/BB ratio over 23 innings (seven appearances, five starts) last year between the Yankees, Twins and Brewers. The soft-tossing 30-year-old journeyman provides the Marlins with some emergency starting pitching depth.

Chi Chi González has elected free agency.
The 30-year-old hurler had been designated for assignment in early October and sent outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He’ll look for work on the open market this winter -- where he’ll almost assuredly have to settle for a minor league deal with an invitation to big league spring training. González registered a lackluster 5.87 ERA and 1.52 WHIP over 23 innings between the Yankees, Brewers and Twins during the 2022 campaign.
