Chandler Simpson is leading off for the fourth consecutive game on Sunday against the Orioles.
Simpson caught fire since the start of July, hitting .396 (19-for-48) with five steals in 13 games during that span. The 24-year-old speedster offers some serious appeal for fantasy purposes as a batting average and stolen base source, if he can sustain this recent run and stick atop Tampa Bay’s lineup for the final two-plus months of the season.

Chandler Simpson is leading off again on Saturday against the Orioles.
Simpson can do some serious damage on the basepaths and Tampa Bay appears poised to give him a look atop their lineup on a more consistent basis coming out of the All-Star break. The 24-year-old speed demon finds himself in the leadoff spot for the third consecutive game on Saturday afternoon. It would certainly be a boost to his fantasy value if he manages to stick there over the final two months.

Chandler Simpson is on the bench for Monday’s series opener against the Athletics.
Simpson heads to the bench, along with fellow lefty bats Josh Lowe and Brandon Lowe, with southpaw Jacob Lopez taking the ball for the Athletics. The 24-year-old speedster is batting .318 (7-for-22) with one extra-base hit and two steals in six games since returning to the big leagues on June 24.

Chandler Simpson is in center field and batting eighth on Wednesday night against the Royals.
Simpson is worthy of a speculative roster spot in virtually every fantasy format based solely on his stolen-base potential. However, he’s not going to chip in elsewhere unless he gets some luck in the batting average department. The 24-year-old speed demon went 0-for-4 with a strikeout on Tuesday night in his return to the majors.

Rays recalled OF Chandler Simpson from Triple-A Durham.
Tampa Bay sent fellow rookie Kameron Misner down yesterday to make room. Simpson hit .285/.315/.317 with 19 steals over 35 games in his first stint in the majors. His defense is an issue, but the Rays probably wouldn’t be recalling him if they weren’t going to start him regular against righties. It looks like another setback for Christopher Morel, who seemed to be making playing time gains in recent days. Simpson should be worth rostering in all formats.

The Rays are planning to recall Chandler Simpson prior to Tuesday’s game.
Kameron Misner was sent down to open up a spot, so the Rays are picking offense over defense for once. Simpson was hitting .366/.416/.465 with 11 steals in 16 games since being demoted. He figures to start against right-handers, probably mostly in left field but maybe occasionally in center, and he’ll be worth using in mixed leagues.

Chandler Simpson went 3-for-5 with a run scored and two steals for Triple-A Durham on Tuesday.
Simpson is now hitting .317 with 14 steals in 29 games at Triple-A this season. That does come with an underwhelming .706 OPS and poor defense, which is why he remains in the minors. However, he is who he is at this point. If Tampa Bay decides to give him another shot, Simpson will remain a solid asset for batting average and steals.

Chandler Simpson went 5-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a stolen base for Triple-A Durham on Sunday.
Simpson is back in Triple-A and doing exactly what he did in the big leagues. All of his hits were singles, but he made consistent contact and put pressure on the defense with his speed. The Rays clearly feel that his defense is not good enough to help their big league roster, but his defense has been a weak point for much of his minor league career, so it’s unclear if the 24-year-old will ever become an above-average defender. What that means for his future in Tampa Bay is anybody’s guess.

Jake Mangum went 0-for-3 on Friday against the Astros in his return to the lineup.
Mangum needs to produce at the dish over the next few weeks in order to avoid being shipped to the minors in favor of speed demon Chandler Simpson, who is a true weapon thanks to his game-changing baserunning prowess. The 29-year-old outfielder was back in Tampa Bay’s lineup on Friday after missing five weeks with a left groin strain.

Rays optioned OF Chandler Simpson to Triple-A Durham.
The Rays are picking Jake Mangum over Simpson now that he’s ready to return from the IL. Simpson hit .285 in 133 plate appearances and stole 19 bases in 35 games, but he had just four extra-base hits and six walks and his defense wasn’t great. This is a big disappointment for fantasy leaguers, but it’s easy to understand why the Rays made the move. It’s still encouraging that Simpson wasn’t overmatched in the majors, but given his extreme lack of power, it’s imperative that he become a better defender if he’s going to truly help the Rays.
