Blue Jays purchased the contract of RHP Chad Jenkins from Double-A New Hampshire.
Jenkins is a former first-round pick but has had a thoroughly underwhelming year at New Hampshire, posting a 4.96 ERA while striking out just 57 over 114 1/3 innings. He’ll likely be used as a long man out of the bullpen.

Carlos Villanueva will not start Tuesday against the Twins.
No word on the reason for the change. The Blue Jays have been worried that Villanueva was wearing down, so they might have decided to shut him down for the year. Assuming that’s the case, he’ll head into free agency with a 4.16 ERA and 112/46 K/BB ratio over 125 1/3 innings. Chad Jenkins will start in his place Tuesday.

Chad Jenkins will start Tuesday against the Twins.
He’ll start on short rest in place of Carlos Villanueva. Jenkins was chased for three runs over just 3 2/3 innings in his last start Friday vs. the Yankees and doesn’t make for a strong play in fantasy leagues.

Chad Jenkins will make his first major league start Sunday against the Rays.
The Jays need a spot starter with Ricky Romero and Henderson Alvarez both pitching in Wednesday’s doubleheader. Jenkins has posted a 4.91 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the Jays and put up a 4.96 ERA with just 57 strikeouts over 114 1/3 innings at Double-A this season. He’s a poor streaming option.

Chad Jenkins earned the first victory of his MLB career on Tuesday night after limiting the Twins to two runs on five hits over five-plus innings.
Jenkins struck out two. He cruised through the first five innings without any difficulty, but allowed a single then a two-run homer to Denard Span leading off the sixth. The Toronto right-hander finishes 1-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 16/11 K/BB ratio over 32 innings of work. He’ll enter the 2013 season with a chance to compete for a spot in the Jays’ rotation.

Making his first career start, Chad Jenkins allowed one run and two hits over five innings against the Rays on Sunday.
Jenkins took the loss, but he made a nice impression in the 66-pitch outing. He’s now made 11 appearances for the Blue Jays, all of them coming in losses.

Chad Jenkins may start one half of the Blue Jays’ September 24 doubleheader against the Orioles.
Jenkins has posted a pedestrian 4.24 ERA and 8/5 K/BB ratio in 17 innings of relief for Toronto since being promoted in early August from Double-A New Hampshire. The 24-year-old right-hander will not be a good streaming option in any fantasy league.

Chad Jenkins was hit hard in a losing effort against the Yankees on Friday, surrendering three runs on four hits in just 3 2/3 innings of work.
Jenkins also walked three and struck out two in the brief outing. Nick Swisher’s two-run double got the Yankees on the board in the first, and they added another run in the second. It appears unlikely that he’ll make another start this season, so the 24-year-old right-hander should finish the season with an 0-3 record, 4.67 ERA and 14/10 K/BB ratio in 27 frames.

Blue Jays recalled RHP Chad Jenkins from Double-A New Hampshire.
Jenkins is finally healthy after missing the first month of the season due to a shoulder injury. It’s not clear if he’ll be making a spot start on Sunday with Brandon Morrow (neck) sidelined. Jenkins posted a 4.50 ERA in 13 games (three starts) with Toronto in 2012.

Chad Jenkins will start Sunday against the Red Sox.
Jenkins missed the first month of the season with a shoulder injury, but is coming off a strong outing in his first appearance with Double-A New Hampshire. He’ll make a spot start with Brandon Morrow (neck) sidelined and could push for a rotation spot with both Josh Johnson and J.A. Happ on the disabled list.
