Rays SS prospect Carson Williams went 0-for-3 with a stolen base on Friday for Double-A Montgomery.
There’s a possibility Williams closes out the year as the top prospect in the fantasy landscape as he holds a robust .808 OPS with 14 homers and 28 steals this season for Double-A Montgomery. The 21-year-old shortstop has the look and feel of a five-category impact fantasy contributor since he’s cut back on the strikeouts and is excelling in the upper minors.

Rays SS prospect Carson Williams went 2-for-3 with a solo homer on Thursday for Double-A Montgomery.
Williams has rapidly evolved into one of the top prospects in the entire fantasy landscape this season as he’s cut back on the strikeouts and continues to hit for power in the upper minors. The 20-year-old shortstop is batting .294/.380/.554 with 11 homers and 15 steals through 52 games. He projects as a potential five-category impact contributor down the road.
  • TB Shortstop #4
Rays INF prospect Carson Williams went 4-for-4 with a homer for Double-A Montgomery on Thursday.
Williams also doubled. The 20-year-old is off to a very nice start to the 2024 campaign with a slash of .471/.500/.824 over the first four games. The 28th pick of the 2021 MLB Draft, Williams has plus power in his right-handed bat with well above-average speed as well, and on top of that pop/speed combo he is an outstanding defender at short. The question mark is the hit tool because he strikes out so much, but Williams has the tools to be a multi-category helper — one that could be in the majors by the end of 2024.

The Rays optioned SS/3B Junior Caminero and INF/OF Greg Jones, INF Austin Shenton and RHP Yoniel Curet to Triple-A Durham; reassigned OFs Ruben Cardenas, Niko Hulsize, Kameron Misner, Tristan Peters, C Logan Driscoll, LHP Antonio Jimenez, RHP Enmanuel Mejia, INFs Tanner Murray and Carson Williams to minor league camp.
It’s now official that one of the top fantasy prospects in baseball will open the season in the minors. In nine spring games, the 20-year-old went 7-for-26 (.269) with one homer and four RBI. It was reported earlier in February that the team was unlikely to have Caminero on the Opening Day roster due to his inexperience at the professional level. We’ll see if the team decides to play him at shortstop or third base given the Amed Rosario signing this offseason, but expect the young prospect to be called up if there is an injury on that side of the infield. The other notable name here is Carson Williams, who has some diverging opinions from scouts and evaluations, but is generally viewed as one of the most promising middle infield prospects in the game entering this season.

2021 first-round pick Carson Williams made his Triple-A debut Tuesday, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored.
It might be a temporary assignment for Williams, who was skipped past Double-A with Durham needing some infield assistance. The 20-year-old shortstop was hitting .262/.359/.506 with 18 homers and 14 steals for High-A Bowling Green.

Rays signed first-round pick SS/RHP Carson Williams.
Williams will get a signing bonus worth just below the $2,493,900 recommended slot value for the No. 28 overall pick, where he was selected in this month’s 2021 MLB Draft out of a high school in California. He’s a two-way prospect but is expected to focus more on the infield as a pro.

Rays selected Torrey Pines HS (CA) SS/RHP Carson Williams with th 28th pick of the 2021 MLB Draft.
Williams is a two-way prospect, but one that most believe will end up being used in the infield more than pitching. The 18-year-old has a cannon for an arm -- unsurprisingly -- but also has slick actions in the field and should have no problem staying at short. He also has some feel for the barrel, and could add some power as he gets stronger. On the mound, he gets up to the mid-90s with his fastball, and he shows the makings of a solid breaking-ball.
