Pirates reassigned RHP Thomas Harrington, RHP Carson Fulmer, RHP Burch Smith, RHP Tanner Rainey and 1B/OF DJ Stewart to minor league camp.
No real surprises here as the Pirates announced earlier on Monday that Carmen Mlodzinski would break camp as the club’s fifth starter over Harrington. The 23-year-old top pitching prospect figures to break into the majors at some point later this year.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #41
Pirates signed RHP Carson Fulmer to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
Fulmer logged 86 2/3 innings over 37 appearances (eight starts) for the Angels during the 2024 season, compiling a 4.15 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and an 81/40 K/BB ratio. You can simply never have enough quality pitching and Fulmer has shown the ability to pitch effectively out of the rotation and out of the bullpen at various points in his career. As a depth option on a minor league deal, it’s a nice move for the Pirates.
  • FA Starting Pitcher #41
    Carson Fulmer elected free agency.
Fulmer was sent outright to Triple-A by the Angels on Friday and now will have a chance to sign with a new club — or return to Los Angeles if the team has interest. Fulmer showed some flashes as a starter in 2024, but not enough to suggest he’ll get a major-league deal this offseason.
  • LAA Second Baseman #38
Angels sent INF Michael Stefanic, RHP Carson Fulmer, INF Charles Leblanc, INF Jack López outright to Triple-A Salt Lake.
It’s the first outright assignment for Stefanic, who made his MLB debut for the Angels in July 2022 and was up and down several times since. He hit .232/.317/.275 in 264 plate appearances over 2 1/2 seasons. Of the three infielders here, Leblanc probably has the best chance of helping a team. The Angels, though, gave him just 28 plate appearances, in which he homered twice and walked seven times.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #54
José Suarez will take Sam Aldegheri’s (finger) place in the rotation.
Carson Fulmer (elbow) was activated Sunday, but the right-hander will pitch in the bullpen instead. Suarez should be stretched out enough for the chance to qualify for wins, but keep in mind he plays for the Angels. There’s not much fantasy significance here.

Angels activated RHP Carson Fulmer off the 15-day injured list.
Fulmer is back after missing two weeks with inflammation in his pitching elbow. The 30-year-old was having his first real taste of MLB success, and if he gets a chance to start he’d be worth streaming consideration — depending on the matchup, of course.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #41
Angels placed RHP Carson Fulmer on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to August 27, with right elbow inflammation.
This one is actually a tough blow for the Halos as Fulmer had pitched surprisingly well since transitioning to their starting rotation. He’ll undergo an MRI exam to determine the severity of the injury but the most likely outcome is that his 2024 season is finished. Samuel Aldegheri and Caden Dana were promoted from Double-A Rocket City on Friday to join the Angels’ rotation in place of Fulmer and Johnny Cueto.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #41
Carson Fulmer allowed two runs with eight strikeouts over six innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Saturday.
The Blue Jays got to Fulmer early, bringing two runs in to score in the first inning on a single and two doubles. Fulmer recovered nicely, settling in for five more scoreless frames, striking out an impressive eight batters. The 30-year-old right-hander ends the day with a 4.15 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and a 79/37 K/BB ratio across 80 1/3 innings. He’ll take on the Mariners in Anaheim on Friday.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #41
Carson Fulmer allowed three runs (two earned) in four innings and took the loss against the Royals on Monday.
Fulmer gave up five hits, walked three and struck out four. He allowed an RBI single to Salvador Perez in the third inning and a two-run home run to Paul DeJong in the fourth inning. Fulmer hasn’t completed five innings in any of his last three starts and has completed six innings in only one of seven starts since he moved into the starting rotation. He has 29 strikeouts in 32 innings as a starter to go along with a 4.78 ERA and zero wins. The 30-year-old right-hander is set to face the Blue Jays on the road this weekend.
  • LAA Starting Pitcher #41
Carson Fulmer lasted just three innings and gave up five runs Tuesday in a loss to the Blue Jays.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Spencer Horwitz both homered off him. Fulmer has been a nice surprise for the Angels, but his last five starts have produced just one good outing, that coming at home against the light-hitting Rockies. He’s 0-3 with a 4.22 ERA.
