Montgomery is the future at shortstop for the White Sox and is a huge on-base percentage asset with a .410 OBP with 123 walks through 186 minor league games. He’s currently the 9th-ranked prospect in MLB Pipeline and could be up in Chicago by the summer.

Pérez went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment last weekend and will remain with the White Sox as extra organizational catching depth. He got into 34 games last year for Chicago.

Pérez draws the short straw as the White Sox needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for righty Chris Flexen. The 27-year-old backstop has gotten into 34 contests for Chicago over the past two seasons. He’ll likely clear waivers and remain with the organization.

He’ll take the place of the recently demoted Oscar Colas on the White Sox’ active roster. Pérez, 27, has appeared in 18 games for the White Sox this season — hitting just .241/.267/.345 with zero homers, two RBI and a 9/1 K/BB ratio over 30 plate appearances. He can continue to be ignored for fantasy purposes.

With Seby Zavala landing on the injured list, the White Sox are bringing Pérez back into the fold. The 26-year-old has been hitting .238/.295/.410 across 278 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte and isn’t relevant in fantasy at this time.

The 26-year-old backstop went 2-for-15 (.133) with a 5/1 K/BB ratio in his limited action with the big league club. A corresponding roster move will be announced on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old backstop has been hitting .246/.305/.434 with 11 homers and 29 RBI through 249 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte this season. He’ll add depth behind the plate at the big league level. Adam Haseley was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Pérez will head back to Charlotte with Jake Burger (oblique) returning from the 10-day injured list on Sunday.

Eloy Jiménez landed on the 10-day injured list after having an appendectomy on Saturday. The 26-year-old backstop was hitting .272/.321/.553 with right homers across 112 plate appearances for Triple-A Charlotte.
