Carl Everett’s limited range in center field continues to hurt the White Sox, who are 1-5 against the Devil Rays and Tigers in their last six games.
Everett’s inability to get to Kevin Witt’s bloop single in the first inning Thursday allowed the Tigers to score the game’s only run, and in Wednesday’s loss, Everett failed to make two critical catches. If Everett were hitting, that might be acceptable, but he has a 519 OPS with the White Sox. Roberto Alomar hasn’t been much better at 644. Just as it was premature to think the Sox were headed to the top of the AL Central after making these trades, it’s also premature to think Everett and Alomar won’t play better. Although if Everett can’t play centerfield, the team is back where it started with Aaron Rowand and company.
  • SEA Designated Hitter
Carl Everett will likely not play again this season.
His strained adductor muscle (near groin) has not fully healed, and although Everett continues to rehab the injury, there is no timetable for his return to action. With only 12 days left in the 2004 campaign, Everett is running out of time.

Carl Everett (sore quad) did not work out Monday.
Tuesday’s lineup at left field, first base, and DH will be determined by Everett’s status at gametime.
  • SEA Designated Hitter
Carl Everett will not return to action until next week at the earliest.
He has a strained muscle near his left groin that is not healing quickly. Although the White Sox are not saying so, it is possible that Everett could miss the rest of the season with the injury.

It was the veteran’s first game action in two weeks. Everett went 0-for-3 with a run scored in Chicago’s 7-6 win over the Twins.
  • SEA Designated Hitter
Carl Everett has advised the White Sox that he will exercise his $4 million player option for next season.
He will have to show up in much better shape if he wants to be a regular in the Chicago outfield in 2005. Everett will participate in a special polymetric offseason conditioning program designed to strengthen his leg muscles.
  • SEA Designated Hitter
Carl Everett will likely exercise a $4 million player option to return to the White Sox next season.
If he does, Chicago manager Ozzie Guillen wants him to show up to spring training in better shape. The White Sox will likley play Frank Thomas as the team’s DH and will need Everett healthy and able to play in the outfield five days a week. Everett is currently recovering from a strained thigh muscle and remains out of the Chicago lineup on a day-to-day basis.

  • SEA Designated Hitter
The Devil Rays will meet with free-agent outfielder Carl Everett today.
