Phillies optioned INF/OF Weston Wilson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley; reassigned RHP David Buchanan, OF Jordan Luplow and Cs Cam Gallagher and Aramis Garcia to minor league camp.
Wilson is the clear headliner here as he figures to be up and down this season in a bench role, as needed. He’s currently dealing with a left hand injury that he suffered during Thursday’s spring training contest. Luplow was picked up earlier this month and could be an option in a corner outfield spot, if necessary.
  • PHI Catcher #35
Cam Gallagher was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to a right knee contusion.
Gallagher is in Phillies camp this spring as a non-roster invitee. The 31-year-old backstop figures to open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley as emergency catching depth.
  • PHI Catcher #35
Phillies signed C Cam Gallagher to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The Phillies added veteran Cam Gallagher on a minor league deal, and the transaction should add extra organizational depth at catcher this season. The 31-year-old hit .126/.154/.168 across 149 plate appearances last year with the Guardians.
  • FA Catcher #35
Guardians C Cam Gallagher elected free agency.
Gallagher passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last week by Cleveland after they gobbled up backstop Christian Bethancourt off waivers from the Rays. The 30-year-old backup catcher got into 56 contests last season for the Guardians and shouldn’t have any trouble latching on somewhere else as emergency catching depth.
  • CLE Catcher #35
Guardians designated C Cam Gallagher for assignment.
With the Guardians claiming Christian Bethancourt off of waivers from the Rays on Monday, something had to give on the active roster and Gallagher was the odd-man out. There’s a decent chance that he’ll pass through waivers unclaimed and could remain with the Guardians as extra depth behind the plate.
  • CLE Catcher #23
Bo Naylor (thumb) is not in the Guardians’ lineup for Saturday’s game against the Orioles.
It’ll be Cam Gallagher handling the catching duties on Saturday night after Naylor was lifted from Friday’s contest with a right thumb contusion. He’s day-to-day for now.
  • CLE Catcher #23
Bo Naylor is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Sunday’s showdown against the Rangers.
Naylor caught the last four games so it isn’t a surprise to see him start the game on the bench. The 23-year-old backstop has performed well in the second half of the season, hitting .286/.378/.543 with four homers and three stolen bases since August 15th. Cam Gallagher will be Gavin Williams’ batterymate Sunday afternoon while batting ninth.
  • CLE Catcher #35
Guardians activated C Cam Gallagher from 7-day injured list.
Gallagher rejoins Cleveland’s suddenly-crowded catching mix for the second game of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Dodgers following a one-week stint on the injured list due to a concussion.
  • CLE Catcher #35
Guardians placed C Cam Gallagher on the 7-day concussion injured list.
Gallagher has been diagnosed with a concussion an will be sidelined for an indefinite period. It’ll be Zack Collins coming up to take his spot on Cleveland’s active roster in a backup catcher capacity.
  • CLE Catcher #23
Bo Naylor is not in the Guardians’ starting lineup for Sunday’s contest against the White Sox.
It is just a regular day off for the 23-year-old backstop. The younger Naylor has struggled out of the gate this season, slashing .213/.267/.400 with a dreadful 29 percent strikeout rate. Cam Gallagher will catch Aaron Civale while batting ninth in his absence.
