Marlins placed RHP Calvin Faucher on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to September 5, with a right shoulder impingement.
It’s unclear where the Marlins will turn in the late innings as Faucher had emerged as their primary closer since the trade deadline when they jettisoned both Tanner Scott and A.J. Puk. It’ll likely be John McMillon getting the first shot, if a save situation arises. The 28-year-old righty, who has converted six saves to go along with a stellar 2.75 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 27/9 K/BB ratio across 19 2/3 innings (20 appearances) since July 19, is most likely done for the rest of the season, but that remains to be seen. There should be some clarity on his status in the coming days.

Calvin Faucher picked up his sixth save by striking out the side in the ninth against the Giants on Sunday.
Faucher blew his first save chance after the trade deadline, but he’s perfect since, and this is the second time in four appearances that he’s struck out the side in order in the ninth.

Calvin Faucher slammed the door on the Giants on Saturday night, working a scoreless ninth inning to protect a one-run advantage.
Faucher took over with the Marlins leading by a run in the ninth inning and made things look awfully easy in closing it out. He got Patrick Bailey on a fly ball to center field and then punched out Jerar Encarnacion and LaMonte Wade Jr. to end it. He now has five saves to go along with his 3.31 ERA on the season and looks poised to keep the Marlins’ closer’s gig for the remainder of the season. That certainly warrants a look in all fantasy formats.

Calvin Faucher struck out the side in the ninth inning to preserve a 9-8 win over the Rockies on Tuesday.
Perhaps Faucher was jacked up after the Marlins scored five runs in the ninth inning to take the lead, but he came out and dominated the top three hitters in the Rockies lineup to earn his fourth save of the season. The 28-year-old has turned his career around a bit in his first year in Miami, posting a 3.44 ERA in 49 2/3 innings.

Calvin Faucher allowed two hits and struck out two Mets en route to the save on Sunday.
Things got tense quickly for Faucher here as José Iglesias and Tyrone Taylor hit back-to-back singles to start the ninth inning. Then Jeff McNeil failed to get a bunt down and eventually struck out before Christian Pache flagged down a screaming line drive from Francisco Lindor deep in center field. Then, Faucher punched out Mark Vientos to end it. Faucher’s stuff has trended up lately and he threw his hardest sinker (98.4 MPH), sweeper (90.7 MPH), and second-hardest cutter (95.0 MPH) of the season on Sunday.

Calvin Faucher walked the tightrope against the Reds on Wednesday night but managed to escape with a two-run lead intact to earn his second save of the season.
The 28-year-old right-hander took over with a two-run lead to protect in the ninth inning. He issued a one-out walk to Elly De La Cruz and then a double to Tyler Stephenson that put two runners in scoring position. After getting TJ Friedl to fly out to left, he plunked Ty France to load the bases. He was able to bear down though, getting Jeimer Candelario to bounce out to second base to end the ballgame. Faucher looks like he could be the preferred option in the ninth inning and he’s worth a look for those in deeper leagues that are speculating on saves.

Calvin Faucher threw a scoreless ninth inning to earn a save in a 4-3 win over the Braves on Saturday.
Despite blowing a save on Friday, Faucher was given another chance on Saturday and delivered. After a one-out single by Jarred Kelenic, Faucher struck out the last two hitters of the game to earn the save. It was his first of the season. While it appears that Faucher is the favorite for saves in Miami following the trade deadline, it should also be noted that he faced the 7-9 hitters while Andrew Nardi got the eighth inning against the 4-6 hitters. Faucher has a 3.46 ERA on the season and has been solid overall, but this feels like a committee brewing.

Calvin Faucher took a blown save and a loss after giving up three runs in the eighth inning Friday against the Giants.
Faucher appeared to be the first choice for saves in the Miami pen with Tanner Scott gone, though he would have needed to go two innings in order to close out this one. We don’t know if that was actually the plan, but it might have been, considering that the two guys we’d look at as the most likely alternatives in the ninth, Anthony Bender and Andrew Nardi, worked the sixth and seventh, respectively, tonight. That Faucher, who came in with a 2.95 ERA, had a nightmare outing might make it more likely that Bender or Nardi gets the next chance.

Padres acquired LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Bryan Hoeing from the Marlins for RHP Adam Mazur, LHP Robby Snelling, 3B Graham Pauley and INF Jay Beshears.
As a lefty with a 1.89 ERA in 123 2/3 innings since the beginning of 2023, Scott was the top reliever available in trade and commanded a strong return from the Padres. This deal will cost him most of his fantasy value, since he’ll rarely get save chances unless Robert Suarez gets hurt. Still, he’ll probably be big for the Padres if they can put together a playoff run. The Marlins could now use Calvin Faucher or Anthony Bender in the ninth, though they’re probably not going to have much to save the next two months.

Diamondbacks acquired LHP A.J. Puk from the Marlins for 1B/3B Deyvison De Los Santos and OF Andrew Pintar.
Puk was a bust as a starter at the beginning of the year, which has left him with mediocre numbers, but since coming off the IL and returning to the pen in May, he has a 2.08 ERA and a 33/6 K/BB ratio in 30 1/3 innings. He should be an excellent setup man for the Diamondbacks, who will have him under control through 2026. With Tanner Scott almost certainly to follow Puk out of town, Calvin Faucher now might be the favorite for saves in Miami in August and September.
