Marlins signed RHP Cal Quantrill to a one-year, $3.5 million contract.
The move is now official after the Marlins placed Braxton Garrett on the 60-day injured list. Quantrill will be a back-end starter for the Marlins with extremely limited fantasy appeal, if at all.

Alden Gonzalez of ESPN reports that the Marlins have signed Cal Quantrill to a one-year contract.
Quantrill was non-tendered by the Rockies after going 8-11 with a 4.98 ERA, but the Marlins are in need of arms for their injury-riddled rotation. Quantrill should have a spot in that group, but his fantasy value is extremely limited even if he ends up sticking with that spot throughout the 2025 campaign.

    Rockies non-tendered RHP Cal Quantrill.
The Rockies traded for Quantrill a year ago and paid him $6.55 million coming off an awful season with the Guardians. He wound up justifying the salary in in going 8-11 with a 4.98 ERA, making him only a bit below average for as a Coors Field pitcher. Still, the team wasn’t going to pay $8 million-$10 million to keep him around for 2025. Perhaps he could return at a lesser price.

Cal Quantrill allowed six runs in 3 1/3 innings to get a loss against the Dodgers on Friday.
Quantrill gave up two homers, allowed seven hits, and pitched exactly the way you’d expect a player of his talent and skill set to pitch against the Dodgers in Colorado. The 29-year-old finishes 2024 with a 4.98 ERA and an 8-11 record, and even if he joins a better organization in 2025, there’s no reason to consider him from a fantasy perspective.

Cal Quantrill yielded three runs in 4 2/3 innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.
Quantrill could have wound up with the win had he gotten one more out, but considering that he’d given up six hits, walked four and thrown 100 pitches, it was probably best to get him out of there. He’s due to face the Dodgers again on Friday.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #47
Cal Quantrill allowed two runs over 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Cubs on Sunday.
Quantrill was making his first start back after missing two weeks with triceps inflammation, and it looked like it. He not only gave up four hits, but he also walked six while throwing just 34-of-69 pitches for strikes. It could have been a lot worse if not for a grand slam robbing catch by Brenton Doyle. Quantrill shouldn’t be started against the Dodgers on Saturday. That’s the most obvious point we’ve made in 2024.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #47
Rockies activated RHP Cal Quantrill off the 15-day injured list.
Quantrill is back and will make a start after missing a minimum stint on the injured list with triceps inflammation. The right-hander will not be a recommended fantasy streamer for the series finale against Chicago.

Rockies placed RHP Cal Quantrill on the 15-day injured list with right triceps inflammation.
Quantrill will likely miss the rest of the season with the injury, although that hasn’t been announced just yet. The right-hander was scratched from his Sunday start because of the inflammation. Ty Blach is making the start in his place.

Cal Quantrill was scratched from his scheduled start against the Orioles on Sunday due to right triceps inflammation.
Rockies’ manager Bud Black announced that Ty Blach will start in his place on Sunday. No word yet on how long Quantrill will be shelved for, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him land on the injured list.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #47
Cal Quantrill allowed four runs on seven hits in 5 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Marlins.
In many ways, Quantrill was lucky his line wasn’t worse. The 29-year-old walked five and struck out only two despite posting a 27 percent whiff rate and 28 percent CSW. However, he also allowed five extra-base hits including a home run to Kyle Stowers. He’ll carry a 4.63 ERA into a start at home against the Orioles where he absolutely cannot be started in any formats.
