Pirates RHP prospect Bubba Chandler struck out four over five shutout innings on Friday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
The numbers are getting a little absurd as Chandler’s latest scoreless outing leaves him with a microscopic 1.33 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 27/6 K/BB ratio across 20 1/3 innings (five starts) this season at the Triple-A level. The 22-year-old righty averaged 98.4 mph on his fastball and touched triple digits five times in the fifth inning on Friday. He’s up there with Phillies phenom Andrew Painter as arguably the top pitching prospect in baseball and it feels like he’s knocking on the door of the majors. He’s one of the few pitching prospects that fantasy managers should be stashing, even in shallow re-draft formats.

Pirates RHP prospect Bubba Chandler struck out six and allowed two runs over four innings on Sunday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
We’re getting close here. Chandler touched triple digits on four separate occasions with his four-seam fastball and averaged 98.8 mph on the offering. The hard-throwing 22-year-old generated 10 swinging strikes and finished with an elite 42 percent CSW on 52 pitches, throwing 37 strikes. He’s arguably the top pitching prospect in the minor leagues at this stage and should get a chance to contribute for Pittsburgh at some point in the coming weeks.

Pirates RHP prospect Bubba Chandler recorded eight strikeouts over four shutout innings on Tuesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
Chandler is on the precipice of reaching the big leagues and should arrive in Pittsburgh by midseason, which makes him one of the top stash candidates for fantasy managers, especially in deeper re-draft formats. The 22-year-old showed why he’s one of the top pitching prospects in baseball by averaging 98.6 mph on his fastball while also generating whiffs with his changeup and slider. He gave up only one hit and two walks over four scoreless frames. It feels like only a matter of time before the Pirates are forced to give him an opportunity at the highest level.

Pirates senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk told reporters Wednesday that Jared Jones has undergone imaging on his right elbow and is waiting on a second opinion.
Tomczyk added that Jones will not pitch again in spring training due to right elbow discomfort and remains without an official diagnosis or timetable to resume throwing. The electrifying 23-year-old righty will open the regular season on the injured list with his absence opening the door for Bubba Chandler, Thomas Harrington or Carmen Mlodzinski to break camp in Pittsburgh’s rotation. Chandler would be the most intriguing from a fantasy standpoint by a considerable margin, but he might be the least likely to get the nod. There should be some much-needed clarity on his status at some point later this week.

Bailey Falter has been scratched from Thursday’s spring training start after not recovering well from playing catch on Wednesday.
The Pirates have not said which part of Falter’s arm is not recovering well, but they did say that removing him from the scheduled start was “out of an abundance of precaution.” At this point, it seems unlikely the left-hander will miss any time, but if this injury were to progress, it could open the door for Bubba Chandler to push his way into the Pirates’ rotation.

Bubba Chandler surrendered a run in one inning of relief work Sunday versus the Twins.
A leadoff walk, a wild pitch and a single resulted in the run, though the inning ended then when DaShawn Keirsey Jr. tried to stretch his hit into a double. Chandler, one of the game’s top pitching prospects, topped out at 99.1 mph today in the 14-pitch outing. He’s not a candidate to make the Pirates, but he should debut this year if he stays healthy.

Pirates invited RHP Bubba Chandler to spring training.
Chandler is not just one of the top pitching prospects in the Pittsburgh system, but one of the top prospects in all of baseball. The 22-year-old is a former four-star quarterback recruit who forged a 3.08 ERA while working up to Triple-A, and his ERA with Indianapolis was 1.83 over seven starts. He likely won’t make the Pirates out of spring training, but he has a great chance to make starts — and help fantasy players — by the time summer rolls around.

Bubba Chandler allowed just one hit and struck out 10 over six scoreless innings for Triple-A Indianapolis on Tuesday.
Chandler is on quite a roll since moving up; he has a 1.59 ERA and a 46/13 K/BB ratio in 34 innings over six starts. Including his time in Double-A, he’s up to 140 strikeouts in 114 1/3 innings for the season.

Pirates RHP prospect Bubba Chandler struck out five and allowed one run -- zero earned -- over five innings on Wednesday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
With the Pirates continuing to fade from playoff contention, the odds are becoming increasingly long that fantasy managers will get a glimpse of Chandler in the big leagues. The 21-year-old has re-established himself as one of the top pitching prospects in baseball this season with a dominant run at Triple-A over the last few weeks, posting a pristine 1.17 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 28/6 K/BB ratio across 23 innings (four starts).

Pirates RHP prospect Bubba Chandler struck out 11 over six shutout innings on Friday for Triple-A Indianapolis.
Chandler has looked like one of the top pitching prospects in baseball for a couple months at this juncture as he continues to dominate on the doorstep of the big leagues. The 21-year-old athletic righty has reeled off 13 consecutive scoreless frames in a pair of starts since being promoted earlier this month to Triple-A and also holds a sparkling 17/3 K/BB ratio during that span. It’s unclear whether the Pirates have the appetite to call him up as they continue to fade from playoff contention, but he offers enough strikeout upside to make a legitimate impact for fantasy managers right away.
