Tigers sent INF/OF Bligh Madris, LHP Bryan Sammons and OF Ryan Vilade outright to Triple-A Toledo.
All three have the option to elect free agency and will presumably do so in the coming days after being removed from Detroit’s 40-man roster at the outset of the offseason. Both Madris and Vilade are merely emergency position player depth while Sammons made six relief appearances last year as a 29-year-old rookie.

Tigers optioned LHP Bryan Sammons to Triple-A Toledo.
One day after he picked up his first victory as a bulk guy for the Tigers. The team is hoping not to need him in that role again with Ty Madden up and Casey Mize on the way back from the IL, but he’ll stay ready. He has a 3.62 ERA in 27 1/3 innings in the majors this season.

Bryan Sammons picked up his first major league victory by pitching 4 1/3 innings of one-run ball as a bulk guy Sunday against the White Sox.
Sammons needed just 50 pitches to get 13 outs against the hapless White Sox lineup. It’s the fifth time in six appearances as a major leaguer that Sammons has been treated as a bulk guy, with his other appearance coming at the end of a game, and he has a 3.62 ERA and an 18/9 K/BB over 27 1/3 innings. It’s unclear if this will continue going forward though, since the Tigers are bringing up Ty Madden and are also likely to activate Casey Mize next week.

Bryan Sammons pitched very well in a no-decision against the Mariners on Wednesday, giving up one run on two hits over his 5 2/3 innings of work.
Sammons punched out four batters on the evening while issuing a pair of walks. The unheralded 29-year-old hurler took over for Beau Brieske in the second inning and worked through the seventh — allowing just an RBI single to Jorge Polanco in the fifth inning. He got nine swings and misses on 74 pitches on the night, posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll carry a 3.38 ERA, 0.70 WHIP and a 13/4 K/BB ratio (18 2/3 innings) into Tuesday’s matchup against the Cubs in Chicago.
  • DET Relief Pitcher
Bryan Sammons gave up five runs over 7 1/3 innings in relief on Monday against the Guardians.
Sammons delivered a respectable performance for Detroit on Monday night in his big league debut, limiting Cleveland’s offense to just four hits over 7 1/3 frames in a bulk relief outing. Unfortunately, three of those hits wound up leaving the ballpark as Guardians icon José Ramírez connected for a pair of solo shots and Bo Naylor added a three-run homer as well. He struck out five and only handed out one free pass. The unheralded 29-year-old right-hander’s minor league numbers don’t portend immediate fantasy relevance, but he figures to get some chances for the Tigers over the final two months, especially if they continue to slide out of playoff contention.

Tigers selected the contract of RHP Bryan Sammons from Triple-A Toledo.
It’s the first trip to the show for the 29-year-old right-hander after toiling in the minor leagues for seven seasons. Sammons made 17 starts at Triple-A Toledo this season, registering a 4.18 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a 78/34 K/BB ratio over 84 innings. It’s expected that he’ll start for the Tigers on Monday in place of Jack Flaherty who was scratched from his scheduled start in advance of a potential trade.

Astros signed LHP Bryan Sammons to a minor league contract.
The 27-year-old southpaw was an eighth round selection by the Twins during the 2017 draft and spent the first five seasons of his minor league career in that organization. He posted a 5.76 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and a 59/18 K/BB ratio across 50 innings out of the bullpen at Double-A Wichita in 2022. Sammons will add bullpen depth in the minors for the Astros.
