  • TOR Catcher #15
Blue Jays sent C Brian Serven outright to Triple-A Buffalo.
Serven was designated for assignment earlier this week. He has the option to refuse the assignment, but either way he’ll become a free agent at the end of the season. Serven is a weak hitter even for a backup catcher. He hit .159 with no home runs and three RBI in 63 at-bats with Toronto this year.

Blue Jays designated C Brian Serven for assignment.
This is interesting, mostly because Serven has caught Bowden Francis’s last five starts during this incredible streak that Francis is on. Still, given that this wasn’t a relationship that was likely to continue into 2025 — Serven is just too weak offensively to justify the backup gig — the Jays might as well get Francis used to throwing to someone else again. Serven was hitting .159/.243/.222 in 71 plate appearances this season. He’s lifetime .187/.247/.293 hitter, in 299 PA even though about 40 percent of his plate appearances have come in Coors.

Blue Jays recalled C Brian Serven from Triple-A Buffalo.
Brian was Serven the Buffalo Bisons but now he’ll come up to take the place of Danny Jensen after Jensen was traded to the Red Sox on Saturday. He’ll likely get some starts behind the plate, but there’s no fantasy upside here.
  • TOR Catcher #15
Blue Jays optioned C Brian Serven to Triple-A Buffalo.
Serven was called up on Monday with Danny Jansen on the paternity list. He made one start during his time up and will now return to Triple-A.
  • TOR Catcher #15
Blue Jays recalled Brian Serven from Triple-A Buffalo.
With Danny Jansen going on the paternity list, Serven will be called up to backup Alejandro Kirk. The 29-year-old is hitting .270/.396/.391 with three home runs in 34 games in Triple-A, but he should only be up for a few days.

Blue Jays placed C Danny Jansen on the Paternity List.
Congrats to Jansen, who will miss up to three games to be with his family. The veteran catcher is not having a great season, slashing .227/.316/.399 with five home runs in 51 games. Perhaps the transition to fatherhood will provide a spark. The Blue Jays recalled Brian Serven to back up Alejandro Kirk in the meantime.
  • TOR Catcher #15
Blue Jays optioned C Brian Serven to Triple-A Buffalo.
Serven was serving as the team’s backup catcher while Danny Jansen was on the IL. The 28-year-old went 0-for-8 with one walk while appearing in seven games.
  • TOR Catcher #9
Blue Jays activated C Danny Jansen from the 10-day injured list.
Jansen suffered a fracture of his right wrist back in early March but has already worked his way back to full health. Alejandro Kirk is still behind the plate on Monday and with Justin Turner seeing most of his starts at DH, it’s unclear just how much playing time Jansen will get. Brian Serven has been optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.
  • TOR Catcher #6
Blue Jays selected the contract of C Brian Serven from Triple-A Buffalo.
Serven will share catching duties with Alejandro Kirk while Danny Jansen (wrist) is on the mend. There’s no fantasy value to be had here.
  • TOR Catcher #6
Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed Brian Serven has made the season-opening roster.
Serven will take over the roster spot vacated by an injured Danny Jansen (wrist) to open the season. He’ll function as Alejandro Kirk’s primary caddy for at least a few weeks.
