  • OAK Third Baseman #77
Athletics recalled 3B Brett Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Harris has struggled at the plate in a handful of contests this season for Oakland, but he’s going to get another shot with veteran Aledmys Díaz being designated for assignment.
  • OAK Third Baseman #77
Athletics optioned INF Brett Harris to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old socked three home runs in his limited time with the big league club, but he did so while slashing an anemic .116/.291/.326 with five RBI and a 13/9 K/BB ratio over his 55 plate appearances. Miguel Andujar was activated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.
  • OAK Third Baseman #77
Brett Harris struck out all three times he was up against the Royals on Friday.
Harris hit two homers in his second big-league game on May 4, but he definitely hasn’t done much since: he’s currently at .128//314/.359 in 51 plate appearances. With Ryan Noda heating up in Triple-A and J.D. Davis, Abraham Toro and Tyler Nevin all capable of playing third, Harris might wind up getting sent down sometime soon.
  • OAK Third Baseman
Athletics selected the contract of INF Brett Harris from Triple-A Las Vegas.
The 25-year-old infielder was ranked as the ninth best prospect in the A’s system by MLB Pipeline. He was off to a nice start at the Triple-A level, hitting .289/.418/.456 with three homers, 20 RBI, one stolen base and a 26/18 K/BB ratio over 110 plate appearances. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, Harris doesn’t really bring much to the table in terms of power or speed, as he clubbed just nine homers in the minor leagues in 2023 and has never stolen more than 11 bases in any minor league season.
  • OAK Starting Pitcher #96
Athletics optioned RHPs Joey Estes and Royber Salinas, LHP Brady Basso, INF Jordan Diaz and OF Lazaro Armenteros to Triple-A Las Vegas; re-assigned LHPs Jack O’Loughlin and Francisco Perez, INF Brett Harris, C Yohel Pozo and RHPs Gerson Moreno, Vinny Nittoli and Gerardo Reyes to minor league camp.
It’s a large batch of cuts, and there’s definitely some talent mixed in there, but no one who was truly expected to crack the team’s Opening Day roster. Jordan Diaz saw significant time with the A’s during the 2023 season and he’ll surely get another chance at some point in 2024. Estes is somewhat surprising, as he was absolutely dealing in Cactus League play — posting a 1.29 ERA, 0.43 WHIP and an 8/1 K/BB ratio across seven innings in his three outings.
