The Marlins designated de Geus for assignment on Tuesday and he has a new home two days later. De Geus had pitched seven times for the Marlins, giving up four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, so he should just be bullpen depth for the Blue Jays to end the season.

The designation clears a roster spot for Michael Petersen, as Petersen was claimed off waivers from the Dodgers. The 26-year-old right-hander will now hit the waiver wire himself.

The move opens up a roster spot for waiver claim Mike Baumann. De Geus had pitched seven times for the Marlins, giving up four earned runs in 5 2/3 innings.

De Geus was claimed off waivers from the Mariners earlier this week. The 26-year-old had a 6.39 ERA in 31 innings of relief work in Triple-A this season.

De Geus was designated for assignment by the Mariners last week. He had a 2.70 ERA in four appearances with Seattle and a 6.60 ERA in 32 appearances with Triple-A Tacoma. De Geus will serve as minor league bullpen depth for the Marlins going forward.

The Mariners claimed Jonathan Hernandez off of waivers from the Rangers on Friday but in order to do so they had to free up a spot on their 40-man roster. Unfortunately for de Geus, that was him this time around. The 26-year-old hurler has pitched well in four appearances with the M’s this season, posting a 2.70 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and a 2/2 K/BB ratio over 3 1/3 frames. He could attract some interest on waivers.

De Geus didn’t pitch in his day with the Mariners. He’ll rejoin Tacoma’s bulllpen.

De Geus made four appearances for the Mariners back in April, allowing one run in 3 1/3 innings. He’ll resume working in middle relief.

The Mariners brought de Geus in as a non-roster invite, and while he didn’t make the team, he’ll now get a chance to help an injury-riddled Seattle bullpen. The 26-year-old hasn’t pitched in the majors since the 2021 season, and likely will only work in low-leverage situations.

The deal presumably also includes an invitation to spring training. De Geus hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since making 47 relief appearances during the 2021 season between the Rangers and Diamondbacks. The 26-year-old righty posted a serviceable 4.86 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 36/17 K/BB ratio across 46 1/3 innings (29 appearances) last year in the upper minors of Kansas City’s system.
