Brandon Cumpton has elected free agency.
Cumpton made one appearance for the Blue Jays this season, which was his first in the majors since 2018. He’ll try to catch on in another organization on a minor league pact.

Pirates purchased the contract of RHP Brandon Cumpton from Triple-A Indianapolis.
With A.J. Burnett on the disabled list, Cumpton will start Saturday’s game against the Dodgers. The 24-year-old is ranked as the No. 25 prospect in Pirates’ organization by Baseball America and has a 3.31 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 66 innings at the Triple-A level this season.

Brandon Cumpton allowed three earned runs over five innings Saturday in the Pirates’ loss to the Dodgers.
It was the 24-year-old right-hander’s major league debut and he looked pretty good, carrying a no-hitter into the fourth inning and finishing with five strikeouts against one walk. Pittsburgh lost in extras. Cumpton may be worth a try in an NL-only fantasy league if he gets to take another turn in the Pirates’ starting rotation.

Brandon Cumpton will remain in the Pirates’ rotation for a start on Thursday in Cincinnati.
Cumpton carried a no-hitter into the fourth inning in his major league debut Saturday but wound up allowing three runs over five frames. He has a pretty good arm but would be a risky play for fantasy owners at Great American Ball Park.

Brandon Cumpton held the Reds to two runs -- one earned -- over five innings of work in a no-decision on Thursday.
Cumpton scattered five hits (including a solo homer by Jay Bruce) against one walk and five strikeouts. It’s not clear if he’ll get another turn in the rotation, but he has done a nice job as a fill-in option. Keep an eye on his status in NL-only leagues.

Brandon Cumpton is expected to start on Saturday against the Dodgers.
He’s getting the ball in place of the injured A.J. Burnett. Ranked prior to the season by Baseball America as the No. 25 prospect in the Pirates’ organization, Cumpton holds a 3.84 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 75 innings between Double- and Triple-A this season. Fantasy owners should steer clear of him.

Pirates optioned RHP Brandon Cumpton to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Cumpton posted a 3.60 ERA in two spot starts, but is no longer needed with Jeanmar Gomez returning from the DL. The Pirates have called up Tony Sanchez to replace him on the active roster.

Brandon Cumpton is scheduled to throw a simulated game on Saturday.
This is being done in an effort to keep Cumpton sharp in case a need arises and the Pirates have to call on him at some point during the postseason. The young right-hander made a strong impression in his limited time with the Bucs, going 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 22/5 K/BB ratio over 30 2/3 innings.

Brandon Cumpton worked five shutout innings, yielding just two hits and a walk in Sunday’s 4-2 victory over the Reds.
The 24-year-old struck out three and was removed with a 3-0 lead having thrown 65 pitches. He went 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA and 1.01 WHIP over 30 2/3 innings with the Pirates this season. Cumpton also had a nice campaign at Triple-A and has put himself in a good position to compete for an Opening Day roster spot in the spring.
