Rangers optioned 1B Blaine Crim to Triple-A Round Rock.
Crim is down to make room for Corey Seager (hamstring) on the active roster. The 27-year-old could be back over the summer as a bench option, but there are no guarantees.

Rangers recalled 1B Blaine Crim from Triple-A Round Rock
He goes into Kevin Pillar’s spot. Crim barely got a look after replacing Jake Burger on the Texas roster earlier this month, and he’s not in today’s lineup against the Blue Jays. This might be a very short stay with Corey Seager expected back from the IL this week.
  • TEX Shortstop #5
Corey Seager (hamstring) is taking on-field batting practice again on Monday.
Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News indicates that the Rangers, who have an open spot after designating Kevin Pillar for assignment over the weekend, could activate Seager as soon as Tuesday. Today, though, that roster spot is expected to be filled by Blaine Crim. The hope for fantasy managers is that he’ll be ready to return at some point this week.
  • TEX 1st Baseman #13
Rangers optioned 1B Blaine Crim to Triple-A Round Rock.
Crim returns to the minors with veteran Jake Burger returning from a brief Triple-A odyssey. The 27-year-old unheralded slugger went hitless in 11 at-bats over five games in his first shot at the big-league level.
  • TEX 1st Baseman #13
With Evan Carter up and playing center, the Rangers have Josh Smith at first base and Blaine Crim on the bench for Tuesday’s game against the Red Sox.
It looks like Carter’s opportunity is going to come at the expense of Crim’s, even though the team has some underperformers to choose from instead. Crim, meanwhile, has had all of seven plate appearances to show when he can do. He’s earned a longer look.
  • TEX 1st Baseman
Rangers selected the contract of 1B Blaine Crim from Triple-A Round Rock.
With Jake Burger getting optioned to Triple-A, Crim will have his first opportunity to show what he can do at the big league level. The 27-year-old had been off to a terrific start at Round Rock, slashing .313/.365/.565 with seven homers and 25 RBI through his first 28 games. He’s expected to see fairly regular action at first base with Burger out of the picture and could wind up being worth a look in deeper mixed leagues.
  • TEX 1st Baseman #21
Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that the Rangers plan to demote slumping infielder Jake Burger to Triple-A Round Rock.
The Rangers plan to promote first baseman Blaine Crim from Triple-A to take his place on the active roster. Burger has slashed just .190/.231/.330 with three homers, 12 RBI and a 32/3 K/BB ratio in his first 30 games with the Rangers. They’re hopeful that he’ll be able to get himself back on track at the Triple-A level before rejoining the Rangers.
  • TEX 1st Baseman
Blaine Crim had a three-run homer and an RBI groundout for Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday.
Maybe the Rangers need to think about giving Crim a shot over the struggling Jake Burger at first base. Crim has hit .313/.365/.565 with seven homers in 28 games for Round Rock. His hard-hit rate is 52 percent, and he’s striking out just 17 percent of the time.
  • TEX Relief Pitcher #52
Rangers optioned LHPs Walter Pennington, LHP Jacob Latz and RHP Cole Winn to Triple-A Round Rock; optioned RHP Winston Santos to Double-A Frisco; reassigned 1B Blaine Crim, OF Cody Thomas, LHP Michael Plassmeyer, LHP Robby Ahlstrom and RHP Nolan Hoffman to minor league camp.
Pennington, 26, did a decent job in 16 appearances at the big league level in 2024 — posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and a 17/11 K/BB ratio over 18 innings — so it’s a bit surprising to see him sent out so early when there are still unsettled spots in the Rangers’ bullpen. He’ll probably get an opportunity to pitch for the Rangers at some point during the upcoming 2025 season.
  • TEX 1st Baseman
Blaine Crim finished 2-for-3 with a two-run double as the Rangers bested the White Sox 4-2 on Monday.
Crim, 26, has been a very reliable minor league bat. hitting .300/.373/.515 in four seasons since the Rangers selected him in the 19th round out of Mississippi College in 2019. It’s never been enough to get him taken very seriously as a prospect, but he’s one of a number of stopgap options for the Rangers if issues arise.
