He should be a member of the rotation for the rest of the season. Hendrickson has proved himself at Triple-A, going 11-3 with a 2.03 ERA, but that hasn’t translated to success in the majors, as he’s 0-5 this season with a 9.00 ERA.

Hendrickson, one of the team’s top young arms, has pitched just 13 innings for Double-A Huntsville this season.

Hendrickson opened the season at Double-A Huntsville, but he might be assigned to Single-A Beloit after returning.

This has been an alarming stretch for Brewers pitching prospects. Ben Diggins underwent Tommy John surgery, and Mike Jones might also require the procedure. Left-hander Manny Parra missed his last start with a sore shoulder. Hendrickson said he couldn’t get loose and his velocity was down during his start Friday. He might be headed back to the disabled list.

The rookie was leading the International League in ERA, though he draws a tough assignment against the Reds in Cincinnati tonight. He’s still worth stashing away if you have reserve roster space in NL-only leagues.

Hendrickson could remain in the rotation following Chris Capuano’s return, with Wes Obermueller the probable choice to be sent to the pen. If he looks good in his first couple of starts, he’ll be worth picking up in NL-only leagues.

Because manager Ned Yost wants to keep his top four starters working on four days’ rest, the team will only need a fifth starter three times this month. The plan is for relievers to cover those three outings. Hendrickson will rejoin the rotation in September.

He threw at Fresno batter Adam Shabala in a game Friday in Nashville, which earned him the suspension.
