Austin Voth has signed with the Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
The 32-year-old hurler was non-tendered by the Mariners in late November and didn’t find a deal to his liking on the open market, so he has decided to head overseas for the 2025 season. Voth did a nice job out of the M’s bullpen in 2024, registering a 3.69 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 61/18 K/BB ratio over 61 innings. What’s intriguing is that the plan is for him to work as a starter in Japan — perhaps with the idea of returning to the big leagues for the 2026 season in that same role if he has success there.

    Mariners non-tendered RHP Austin Voth.
Every year at this time difficult decisions need to be made around the league regarding each club’s 40-man roster. This one is a bit surprising though. Voth was a major asset to the M’s bullpen in 2024, registering a 3.69 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and a 61/18 K/BB ratio across his 61 frames. MLBTradeRumors.com had projected the 32-year-old hurler to earn $2.2 million through arbitration, so it’s not like the salary jump should have made a major difference in their decision. It shouldn’t take Voth long at all to find a new opportunity on the open market.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #51
Mariners signed RHP Austin Voth to a one-year, $1.25 million contract.
If things go well, the Mariners will also have control of Voth through arbitration in 2025. The 31-year-old righty had an excellent 3.04 ERA in 17 starts and five relief appearances for the Orioles in 2022, but he missed much of last season with an elbow injury and finished with a 5.19 ERA in 34 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. It’s possible that he’ll be a rotation stopgap for the Mariners if pitchers start getting hurt, but he’s likely looking at a role in middle relief otherwise.

The Mariners are signing Austin Voth to a one-year, $1.25 million contract, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
It’s a little bit surprising to see Voth get a major league deal after a 2023 season in which he missed time with an elbow injury and put up a 5.19 ERA in 34 2/3 innings while healthy, but he was quite good for a stretch in 2022. The Mariners will likely use him in middle relief.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #51
Austin Voth has elected free agency.
Voth is one of the more prominent minor league free agents heading into the offseason after being removed from Baltimore’s 40-man roster in early September. The 31-year-old righty has made 139 career appearances (13 starts) in the majors since 2018. He’ll likely wind up competing for an Opening Day roster spot somewhere next spring.

Orioles sent RHP Austin Voth outright to Triple-A Norfolk.
Voth passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment last weekend and will remain with the Orioles as extra organizational pitching depth. The 31-year-old right-hander has posted a lackluster 5.19 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 34/15 K/BB ratio across 34 2/3 innings (25 appearances) this season in the majors. He’s made 139 career appearances (13 starts) in the big leagues dating back to 2018.

Orioles designated RHP Austin Voth for assignment.
Voth allowed three earned runs in his last appearance for Baltimore and was jettisoned off the roster on Sunday. The 31-year-old has missed most of the season with a right elbow injury, but another club could look to add him to their roster for the final month of the season.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #51
Orioles activated RHP Austin Voth from the 60-day injured list.
Voth had been out since June 13 with elbow soreness. Before that, he had a 4.94 ERA in 31 innings out of the pen. He’ll resume working in middle relief.
  • BAL Relief Pitcher #51
Orioles transferred RHP Austin Voth to the 60-day injured list.
The procedural move opens up a spot on Baltimore’s 40-man roster for the club to claim reliever Jacob Webb off waivers from the Angels. The 31-year-old righty has been out since mid-June due to a right elbow injury.

Austin Voth (elbow) failed to complete an inning for Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, giving up three runs — two earned — while getting two outs.
Voth might have been activated this weekend with a stronger showing, but it seems likely now that he’ll make at least one more appearance. The right-hander has been out since mid-June due to elbow soreness.
